Plasma 6 Bugs

If you encounter a bug, proceed to https://bugs.kde.org/, check whether it has been reported.

If it hasn't, report it yourself.

PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING HERE.

TLDR: I want to be able to set specific window sizes and positions of the current window with hotkeys, as well as focus on specific apps with hotkeys.

I've made posts like this elsewhere as I've lately been really trying to figure out Linux. Anyway, right now KDE is very appealing since its very customizable and has a plugin to recreate Window 11's Mica effect.

First, I want an alternative to Rectangle Pro app on Mac, which let's you set many hotketys for changing the current window's size & position: like use up the left or right halves or thirds of the screen, or corners and taking up a quarter of the screen. You can also make custom window layouts and bind those to keys. I've been told to use a WM like Sway, but then I'd have to make my own DE from scratch.

Second, I want to focus on specifc apps with hotkeys. For instance, I'd want to press CTRL Shift Z to switch specifically to Zen Browser or open it if it isn't opened, and CTRL Shift O to open or switch to Obsidian. I only found two solutions for Linux (wmctrl and wlrctl), and none for KDE.

Hi,

I was used to switching between laptop speakers and Bluetooth speaker on the normal audio menu.

But one day, I needed to use a TV's speakers through HDMI, and couldn't find it, so I initially thought it was a driver issue, but never found a fix, so I had to use a friend's Windows laptop at the last minute because people were waiting to watch something.

Today, months later, I have the same issue, but on a different laptop with more recent hardware, so I was hoping to have better luck, and I didn't... Until I accidentaly notice that the HDMI device is available under a submenu of the laptop's speakers, WTF ?

Attached to this post is a screenshot showing a Bluetooth speaker, the laptop's speakers and HDMI speakers. Why isn't the latter available at the same location as the former two ?

The submenu could be kept for selecting between 2.0/5.1/7.1, just like for Bluetooth devices it's used to select between aptX/LDAC/SBC, but I don't understand what's a whole different device doing in that submenu of the laptop's speakers.

Thanks

I've seen some really cool looking desktop effects related to blurring windows on plasma 5, they look really good, but I just can't seem to find solid info on how to replicate it in plasma 6.

I've tried downloading and installing quite a bit and researched the issue a long while before coming to this.

Does anyone have some solid info regarding this that you can link below? I'm running Bazzite 41 and can give further info if needed as well as a reference point for what effect I'm trying to achieve.

I got an email on Tuesday from the FSF that today was I love free software day, so I decided to make some art in appreciation of a community responsible for creating and maintaining so many wonderful programs! Thank you dearly to KDE for all that you do. As an artist, I use Krita so often for all sorts of things, and I am so grateful it exists.

I could gush about a number of projects under your wing, but to keep this short, you empower people like me to have a freer digital world in so many ways. I appreciate you!

PS: I read the art guidelines, and license this as CC-BY-SA

Scrambled graphics (lemmy.world)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by Technotica@lemmy.world to c/kde@lemmy.kde.social

Hi!

I posted this on reddit and then saw that kde has a lemmy presence, so I am posting it here also, since I vastly prefer lemmy over reddit.:

Sorry if this isn't the right place, but I have no idea where else to ask, I tried asking at discuss.kde.org but got no answers.

I am using Arch with KDE Plasma and an Nvidia GPU, when I play Steam games almost all of them work flawlessly but...

When I try to play older games (like Shadowrun Hong Kong or the rereleases of Sims 1 and 2, or Civ 4 or 5), the graphics are all scrambled like this:

Scrambled

The funny thing is, this is a photo of my screen, if I use Steam to take a screenshot it shows up normally in the screenshot folder...

Screenshot

As it only happens on old games I am thinking those do something different than newer games, it doesn't matter what proton version I use and it only seems to happen under plasma.

Any help would be appreciated!
