I have a lot of cherished memories of playing video games with my kids. We've bonded over shared moments as well as over mutual favorites and their characters and storylines and worlds and art styles. I've shared my love of programming with my kids initially by helping them make their own little video games, and they now have the basics of a very useful skill.
I'd say like just about anything, video games can be good or bad depending on how they're used and engaged with.
