(Or VPN and a secure DNS)

properly setup Tor covers both of those. with proper opsec (admittedly quite hard to do), disconnecting the account from an IP or locality is a legitimate part of the protection puzzle.

some instances do block Tor exit nodes, so if your current home instance blocks you will have issues. federation ftw; use an instance that accepts Tor exit nodes.

does anyone know of an instance offering .onion addresses?

all questions are good!

online organizing has an important place and, over the last 8 years, people have gotten much better at organizing safely online.

I can assure you, facebook is only a public face in many instances. much organizing is done in the backwoods of signal and briar.

I have zero special knowledge, but generic history would suggest that at least some in the officer class, regardless of political leaning, will not be down with the current trajectory.

no idea what this may look like, but my worthless analysis portends something brewing ahead and it may be wise to consider possibilities and prep accordingly. fuck these "interesting times".

Per Silverman’s research, Martynov was an officer in the technical espionage division of the Russian intelligence agency back in 1980, when he was sent to the United States to serve as an undercover agent at the Soviet Embassy in Washington, D.C. About two years into his stay, Martynov got flipped by the FBI and started to feed the US government Soviet secrets.

so not a planted double agent.

Essentially, they are complaining that they can no longer torture folks.

seems to be. I had not seen any detail on the strike and, if this is one of the primary reasons behind the action, then fuck 'em.

if you have to torture people to achieve goals under what I am sure must be systemic deficiencies, then you have lost the fucking plot. you are the tool of oppression, goodbye.

this is the first explanatory article I have seen. are we missing important context somewhere?

look, I think I understand your anger and disappointment - I am fucking angry as well, but defeating maga fascism is going to take a concerted push from all angles. a firebrand aoc; a measured and consistent bernie; a judiciary that pushes back with bared teeth. outside groups that inform, organize and march, putting willing bodies on the line.

bernie is a part of the solution. his message of real solidarity and collective power is a vital part of any resistance. please dont belittle his vital contribution of the past and the now. the man is actively reaching out to a growing body of people across the poltitcal spectrum in ways that only a bernie can.

I live in a decaying rural-ish area thats slowly becoming more suburbanized.

based on the insane number of pre-election and post-election trump signs, a significant number of trump voters are about to get ~~punched in the face~~ kicked in the teeth. again.

you get a suffering and you get a suffering and you get a suffering. everyone gets a suffering!

idk, man. at some point bodies have to go on the line. people need to stand in the way.

I am thankful that some in the Democratic party seem to be willing to lead on this. makes it a little easier for the rest of us to get the fuck up off the couch.

edit: creeped your posts. usa here. double thumbs up on your american blackout day on the 28th. stand up to the bully - I am proud for canada.

just updated to the v0.0.35 f-droid build and jerboa started to consistently crash at seemingly random times. likewise, I would get web UI error notifications while using the web frontend.

did a little testing and noticed that it may be related to the "show avatars" setting being enabled.

turning "show avatars" off and saving the settings seems to have eliminated the issues on both web and app.

will continue to test and update the post if needed. any others able to confirm or refute this particular issue might be helpful.

edit: there are still crashes related to editing a post, but crashes while scrolling through posts and comments seem to be much reduced. any feedback is welcome.

edit2: further poking suggests the underlying cause may be jerboa not handling server response timeouts well. turning off avatars may reduce the number of API calls and therefore the number of potentially mishandled timeouts. crash frequency is likely variable as a result of variable server load. if others also experience reduced crash frequency with avatars turned off then I can either create a github issue or add info to an existing one.

sorry about the quality - was stopped (safety first) but dealing with poor picture taking conditions.

Just checked the Jerboa git and...

Had to document it for posterity.

I know that many of us already know this, but it should repeated as often as needed.

we are the network -- the network is us.

social is nothing without the interactions that we create. reddit was just a place; a place that, because of a centralized power dynamic, abused us all.

we have are now at a cultural juncture, an opportunity to bring back what each of us knows to be true. our interactions do not need to capitalized, marketed and sold.

we are not products. we are the network.

please, find communities that even mildly interest you or catch you eye, join them and comment on posts.

just had this conversatin with the wife and she is joining Lemmy to start her own federated social journey.
