how dare you make him sound fun

muuuuuuuch more limited range, bulky, less utility (can’t easily send maps, photos, etc) - i’m not saying they don’t have options, just that the options aren’t really comparable

also, i think i read somewhere that starlink was proving surprisingly resilient to jamming

uh… okay but the alternative is what? no reliable satellite communications for their military… so a big fat on/off button in the hands of someone horrible is better than just off? they can now choose how they want to proceed - that’s still better than having no choice

someone mentioned elsewhere, but worth repeating here i think: this already has a merged RFC and apparently someone is working on it

saying it bluntly is helping… doomscrolling is the problem, and it might not be easy to fix but it is the actual fix

this is actually the way it works in australia: downloading content is not illegal; sharing content is illegal

thus as a consumer, usenet is fine

i don’t think that’s how it works… as an australian we have reciprocal care in some european countries, but not all. i can’t imagine the US would have any reciprocal health agreements, and thus you or insurance would have to pay

did they ever clear up that random unexplained binaries issue?

if you’d like an extension that works with a whole lot of services, there’s also libredirect

gimme an advanced advanced mode that mimicks the uMatrix UI and i’d donate monthly for sure - uMatrix is one of my most used tools! i’d switch to uBO if the UI were as powerful

i’ve tried using dynamic filtering before, but honestly the UI for it is horrible… their example they give for allowing youtube embeds shows my issue with it pretty well:

their solution is either to allow everything from google.com and youtube.com, or to allow all 3rd party frames

uMatrix allows me to, for example, allow 3rd party frames only from youtube.com, and block cookies for those same frames (heck you could even allow frames and block CSS originating from google if that worked!)

this is particularly useful for analytics services… sometimes the whole page won’t load if an analytics script doesn’t load, so you can allow only scripts and block xhr so it can’t send pings back home

i always find the scale kinda mind blowing

we’re in the top 5 for pretty much every raw resource you can think of, and the funny thing is: they’re actually all just byproducts of iron mining

and the scale of the iron mining… you know how australia is almost the size of the US and pretty much entirely covered in desert? desert that’s the same colour as rust because there’s just iron literally everywhere
