Andy Weir‘s Books (The Martian and Project Hail Mary) are very good entries and fairly easy to read and brilliant.
Then you can look into Corey’s The Expanse for more „realistic” sci-fi in around earth and/or look into Banks’ The Culture of you want to stretch your imagination.

Zuerst nehmen Sie das Dinglebob und verfeinern es mit ein wenig Schleem. Das Schleem wird dann aber in anderen Produkten wiederverwertet. Sie nehmen das Dinglebob und schieben es durch den Grumbo, wo das Fleeb gerubbelt wird. Es ist wichtig, dass das Fleeb gerubbelt wird, weil das Fleeb den Fleebsaft produziert. Dann kommt ein Schlami vorbei und reibt es. Und spuckt drauf.
Sie zerschneiden das Fleeb…es sind noch einige Schritte zu tun. Die Blamfs reiben an den Shumbles. Dann werden die Plubis und der Grumbo entfernt. Und fertig ist der ganz alltägliche Plumbus.
Meine Kinder (4-10) spielen gerne Dorfromantik und viel UNO. Der große spielt bei Dorfromantik mit seinen Freunden inzwischen auch die Kampagne.

I am currently reading „This is how you lose the Time War“. It was praised, but I cannot give a verdict, yet.
I can recommend the „Wool“ series by Hugh Howie and the „Broken Earth“ by NK Jemisin (more „technical“ Fantasy than SF, but great world building).
Yes, I bought a used physical copy, less for Half Life but mainly for Portal.
Half Life 2 doesn’t play that well with controller. In my opinion, it was clearly made for keyboard and mouse. But Portal plays nice!
The red boxes contain Gouda cheese, most likely from NL and not US. The flipped Philadelphia cream cheese is the focus here, and that‘s surely not how it was packaged in the plant.
But it will get lost on many consumers, as it looks too similar. Turning it back to front will have a better effect for consumers, but might just increase work for the stoned clerks who have to reverse them again.
