Many ways to install it officially nowadays (see their website) but most do it via docker. A very easy albeit unoffical way is via flatpak.

She should be fine, but yes on newer kindles like the Scribe (came out in 2022 so not exactly brand-new now) they removed the "mass storage mode" (= what made kindles show up on a pc as a usb drive).

Calibre can work with the newer MTP mode (which is similar to what android phones have) but it's a lot less reliable and requires that no other app, including the OS, file manager, is accessing the device at the same time. It's frustrating and I'm very happy to have jailbroken it, now I can use SFTP to browse the folders much more speedily.

Installing Koreader which can do a million things, but also playing around with terminal access, python, bash scripting, neofetch, usb-network, SSH. For older kindles: the screensaver hack was my first reason to ever jailbreak one.

Exactly the same reasons for me. And I even got used to the US and UK keyboard layouts, especially selecting the "dead keys" layout on the OS so I can easily type the specific letters/accents needed for many European languages (the few ones I speak anyway :) ).

Another advantage of the US layout is that it's the default on any live / installation media / remote server ecc.

I love this comparison, In what language do they use the second saying?

Also site is slightly broken on Webview sans javascript (Privacy Browser): the little 8-bit white clouds (that move with JS on) partially cover every paragraph

Of course it's not too late, it only appears harder because in school we spent a lot of time during the week with many people the same age. But only a fraction of that time is needed, all it takes is being around people and talking to people.

Many on lemmy rightly complain of the lack of "third spaces" nowadays in many of the richer countries (you said college I'm guessing US or UK?), so for example in many places it'd be a bit weird to just go to the pub alone. But you can also just go alone and do and enjoy whatever you want, it just takes a bit more confidence, the embarassment of it usually wears off with age for most.

What's probably easier is joining some semi-regular activity where you get to chat. So pub quiz night, language exchange, chess club, hiking group, etc... are more likely to aid you in this compared to loud night clubs, the gym, or whatever, it's all subjective it's still important to do the stuff you enjoy, regardless of socializing.

You're not wrong at all, the worst part is even the "cleanest" of fuels will need to be refined, trasported (burning more fuel and rubber). If one were to live in the middle of nowhere without electricity or sun or wind or geothermal etc...then it starts making sense. So almost never

There's also "Open in Whatsapp" which has been around for 5 years, I've used it for all this time actually, I stopped giving Whatsapp access to my contacts around the time I was degoogling, plus I keep it installed in the work profile (Shelter), where I purposefully don't sync my personal addressbook. So this type of apps is very handy for a couple different scenarios:

  • you need to contact someone you have no interest in saving the contact of forever (plumber, guy on craigslist, etc)
  • you want to contact a person you haven't talked to in a long while (otherwise you could just search their name within whatsapp) of which you have the number somewhere else

All in all you save time mostly, and potentially give a little less to Meta.

Hi there, what version is your LineageOS? since you mention TWRP which hasn't been recommended for some years..

Anyway from what you wrote you want to keep the current system installed. On my LOS 22.1 (but it's worked like this for ages, even on stock roms): you go to Settings -> System -> Reset Options -> "Erase all data (factory reset)"

Or just search "factory reset" in the settings.

From the browser Settings -> Site Settings -> Always request desktop site (on/off)

This affects Firefox versions since 133.0.0, including the Mull and Fennec forks.

Hopefully I can save you the 10min of frustration I just had 😄 I also just discovered that Android 13 and above cannot downgrade an app anymore without uninstalling first...first world problems, I know.
