Second option is difficult because there are too many instances. It is difficult to make good use of the funds as the popular instances will eventually enjoy too much profit whilst the smaller instances will be forced to shutdown due to lack of funds. This will lessen the decentralisation overtime.

The solution is a central service, something like Lemmy Fund Management or something, which regulates the funds accordingly. The managers will be selected by voting system (democracy). There are other solutions as well.

If the majority does not like the concept of karma, they will migrate to a platform that doesn't have it. You will not be doing anything better than a shitty company by forcing something that a large population of consumers doesn't like.

The issue with this kind of decentralisation is that it becomes very difficult to stop someone from doing something a population does not like.

Zuckerberg can be a moron from a privacy perspective, but he sure does seem to respect stability.

It has pretty much everything along with the comfort of it being by a non-profit organisation from one of the former owners of WhatsApp. Video calls, voice calls, group messaging, stickers, emotes, etc.

Just so you know, there is a desktop client of Signal for all major systems:

I haven't used Skype, but depending on use case, Signal might work.

I have met a few Gujratis online—they say that a large portion of the new generation occasionally tries non-veg, but they never admit it to others out of peer pressure.

Memes like this normalise shitty code made by developers working in companies, and then consumers whine about bugs.

I installed the web app from Chrome. It works smooth enough, but it lags specifically when I type a comment. I don't think there will be a native app.

Sync isn't going to be FOSS, so no, there is no competition, IMO.

Even Google Chat is trash. It can't beat Signal.
