We should absolutely avoid it. Subscription services are wreaking havoc in many other parts of the media landscape. The deal is good now because they're subsidizing the hell out of it, but just like what happened with streaming services the deal will get shittier and shittier until we're stuck with a horrible deal.

I mean, you're still able to buy the Star Wars shows on Blu-ray, so physical disks for video content might remain just like people but vinyls as a collectors item. DVDs will be for old content only, but there are still so many that they may nevertheless become popular again.

Because unlike with Disney+ I'd pay like one euro and I'm able to watch the content forever. But you're right, it isn't HD. Blu-ray is tho, with the same benefits

If anything I think DVDs and Blu-rays are going to rise. All across the media landscape people seem to be getting annoyed with the "own nothing" society we're in. The thrift stores are full of thousands of DVDs for barely any cost. Last week I bought the Matrix 2 and 3 and Der Untergang in DVD for like 3 bucks. Way easier than figuring out in which streaming service to watch them and what OS and browser will let it play at HD resolution. Once "the youth" picks up on this like they did with CDs and digicams the DVD will be back.

Recently In bought a Blu-ray of Star Wars Andor because I love the series and want to support it, but Disney+ wouldn't play beyond 480p on my setup. My trusty old PS3 plays it like a dream and the resulting image is ridiculously sharp compared to streaming.

CDs, cassettes, and vinyl are already booming or in the rise again. And the streaming audio landscape is arguably way nicer than the streaming video lanschape. In photography there's also a wave of film and early digital camera hype.

I hope that the next 10 years brings the resurgence of the physical medium and ownership. And if not that, the resurgence of the high seas.

After watching Andor, I guess Luthem Rael fits that title. Dude's absolutely savage. Forced to use the tools of his enemy to fight for freedom that he'll likely never experience. He sacrifices good people on order to protect the whole

That entirely depends on the circumstances. One cannot make a blanket statement. Let's say that a horrible disease breaks out in a city and the government successfullymanages to quarantine the city before anyone gets out. The people inside suffer and most die without medical help or medicine, but the disease doesn't spread and humanity is saved.

However there are plenty of cases where we should stand up for the rights of a few people even if it costs the majority of people. Making things accessible for people with disabilities costs money that technically could be spent elsewhere, but an empathic society should stand above this kind of thinking and make sure that society is accessible to people with disabilities.

Same, didn't enjoy playing someone I didn't like in a world I wasn't interested in. Good game, not my preferred setting

Fair enough. Nevertheless it is better to have tried that option and decide that it doesn't work for you rather than being ashamed and never trying at all. We should do everything we can to reduce the stigma, yet obviously we have to remain realistic that it won't help everyone. Just as much as wearing masks or vaccines didn't protect everyone against Covid, yet it still helped a lot more people than doing nothing.

Personally I also ran some distilled versions of DeepSeek locally, though I'd imagine that isn't really possible for most people.

Better than nothing I guess. Obviously it's a privacy nightmare. But therapy is hard to reach nowadays and I've noticed that many men are reluctant to make that step. It'd be preferable if they did, but if ChatGPT can at least give an outlet for the emotions then it might just save a few people. Seeing men demolish themselves because they're too ashamed to seek help is something I've unfortunately seen quite often. Even though I'm aware of this I've still waited till it was way too late because I subconsciously didn't want to give in to the "weakness". I hate that men are conditioned this way, it costs lives.

"mem", which is west-frisian for mum. Other than that I don't really speak west-frisian, but words like mom/dad/grandma/grandpa all stayed in Frisian. Family also sometimes speaks Frisian to me, but unfortunately I forgot how to speak it at a young age and can only understand it.
