The unfortunate world we live in

[–] dmtalon@infosec.pub 1 points 4 hours ago (2 children)

That's not at all what I said. The meat Industry already exists and is scaled profitable, even if it's terrible for our planet.

I said to get any scale of another version, it's going to have to be as equally profitable or corporations are not going to go for it.

Sustainable, scalable and profitable.

I am 100% in that category. I have some aspirations to be in a lifestyle where I catch a lot of my own fish but zero desire to move off animal protein to a vegetarian lifestyle.

I don't disagree with your general sentiment, but what I see as responses here are often empty responses... Just the obvious "we should stop being terrible arbiters of our planet". Like no shit, but it's hard and MOST humans are not gonna ever be vegan/vegetarian unless forced.

My point is, you try to... I try to also, but in the dead of winter there's no a local fruit and veggies. I'm also not vegan/vegetarian, I eat meat. Fish, and chicken primarily but I don't raise either, so I have to rely on someone else to do that for me.

We do actually get probably half our eggs from someone at my wife's work, and some. fruits and vegetables at the farmers market down the street in the summer. But they're closed now and have been most of winter.

It's harder than just saying "just stop" was my point. I'd love to be part of the solution where I can but there's zero chance of me not eating meat if it's available.

Curious about your diet, and where you get your food? Also curious how that scales to 350 million people (to feed the US)?

I'm not remotely implying what we're doing, as a society, is right or sustainable but it's super easy to just say "Just stop doing bad things".

Solutions, at scale are quite complicated and nuanced. Private companies that grow our food at scale now will only participate if it's profitable.

Also, if you're not sustainably growing your own food, are you not just like the rest of us (Part of the problem)? I know I don't have the land, or time to grow my own food.

Sticking our head in the sand (current administration) is definitely not gonna turn out well, so I'm guessing there's some fun times ahead!

I used to love track days on my 600. Passing the 1ks in turn 1 after they went zooming by on the straight :)

I raced a couple years and have had the pleasure of visiting a number of tracks within a few 100 miles of Cincinnati, Ohio (Mid Ohio, Grattan, Pitt, Putnam, Nashville Speedway, Autobahn)... This was back in the mid 2000s

Been able to get back to a few of them on 4/wheels the last few years too.

So much fun!

I raced a 2004 Suzuki GSXR600. Belows a picture before it was turned full race (at Deals Gap / Tail of the Dragon) in Tennessee /North Carolina.

Man I loved that bike!

On street or track? If track, which one? I miss getting all done up in my leathers and ripping on my sport bike(s)

Make elon (Tesla) accountable for accidents/deaths, and I bet they'll either disable it or make it work (which I think is a long way off).

Straight up heartbreaking...

An incredible run... My best half is exactly an hour slower. And I'm pretty confident I cannot run one 4:20min mile.

Ya, I watched this last night and it is definitely an interesting idea. A 600hp NA 911 sounds like a fantastic idea :)

There's this...

Outside of Cincinnati and noticed I had no service around 11am. Started checking around ant it seems it's pretty widespread.

Sunset (infosec.pub)

Unexpected huge sunset while driving home tonight.

The sun didn't look real in person!

Anyone here have a new 9? I wanted to listen to some music on my Pixel Buds Pro 1s and noticed the volume was quite low.

Looked around at various settings, but nothing weird. Swapping to my 8 and I get normal volume. Switching back, low again.

So, I never visit McDonald's. Oddly, I have managed to visit them twice this year. Once a month ago while traveling and it just worked out that it made the most sense when we stopped for fuel while traveling.

And second last night. We were at the lake late and coming home just before 9pm. Most non chain places were closing, and the only local spot open was McDonald's. Had the whole family including my visiting parents.

The experience was pretty awful. First, they had 3 employees in the building, and the expectation was that you use the Kiosk. I didn't have 'strong' opinions of having to use it vs. speaking to a human. However after ordering 4 meals on it, it is quite the nightmare for the casual visitor. Probably took 4x as long to order our food.

My parents took their order on a second Kiosk and were not even able to complete their order (Parents are in their mid 70s). Not sure what happened, I wasn't watching them. My dad was quite irritated at this point.

After asking one of the humans multiple times for help, he took their order at the register.

<insert 30 minute wait for food>

Our food was placed in their pickup area in bags with napkins (store napkin holder empty). Nearly every burger was overcooked and quite dry. Both my buns were hard. The fry's were luke warm and not very fresh. The meal for 2 adults and 2 14yos was $40 bux.

I saw a story on Lemmy last week about how McDonald's profits were down and the general consensus was that it was the over priced food. While I'm sure that has an impact I believe the Kiosk, slow 'fast food' and overall experience has to be a huge negative.

My parents were PISSED, and they are historically huge McD Patrons. At least in their case, the price will not be why they do not return. Its the awful experience.

Just got this email from Haier (US) who seems to be distancing themselves from the EU division's decision to block Home Assistance.

Hello , (I changed this)

Thank you for reaching out with your concern.

The Haier brand in the U.S. is independent of Haier Europe and operates separately. hOn is the connected IOT platform for Haier Europe. In the U.S., consumers can use our open IOT platform, SmartHQ. SmartHQ does not prevent integrations with Home Assistant.

We appreciate you reaching out.

Kindest regards,

Digital Engagement Team Haier Appliances

Noticed when we got home last night our outside lights were not on, but we have an automation to turn them on if we're gone after dark. Meant to check why, but forgot.

Logged into the companion app this morning to manually toggle a switch and saw Life360 integration was not connected and "requires reconfiguration"

reentering my password and trying to log in is not working. I tried removing and re-adding the integration but the problem remains. Now I cannot re-add the integration as it will not sign in.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Was hoping this would sort itself out, but after a couple weeks it's still there. Scrolling not always smooth, and swiping back from a post is always very studdery.

Wondering if others are experiencing this? Phone is 2 weeks old, came from a Pixel 7 Pro which didn't have this problem.

cross posting my own post here. Just realized there's two googlepixel communities. Just an FYI. Peak Design did acknowledge my email them, but no updates from them.

Have been using a P7P and PD case for quite a while now, we moved over to the PD ecosystem because we have both Android and Apple phones in the house and I wanted a way we could all just put our phones into a car mount and charge without having multiple wires.

I have an amazon dual charge wireless stand that is 'Made for Google' whatever that means. I use it to charge my P7P w/PD Every Day case, and my Pixel Buds.

I received my P8P PD Everyday case Monday, and yesterday I wanted to put it on the stand to charge it up a bit. Set it on there and after a bit noticed a red flashing light. It was NOT charging the phone. Tried placing it again, same issue.

As it turn out, the P8P case must have changed enough to cause some issues.

P7P + PD Case works fine P8P Naked works fine P8P + $13 amazon magsafe TPU case works fine P8P + PD case does not work.

I sent them an email yesterday with details, but buyer beware.

*Edit: One other thing about the PD case, is the camera bump protection (lip that is taller than the camera) seems like it's smaller. The P7P lip isn't huge, but the amazon TPU case covered a large part of the bump completely which would create a lot more protection. *

Stand:

Amazon case that works with stand.

I normally don't upgrade to the next series, but with trade-in,and pixel watch 2 deal I decided why not

While I didn't particularly love the curved P7P screen it did give you more desktop real estate. The 8s screen feels a tad squished in. Everything on screen is a bit smaller. I don't hate that but it's a surprise.

I just got my Peak Design case so I can use my PD mounts (motorcycle primarily). The case seems decent however, much like my opinion of the P7P case, I think it could use slightly more lip to protect the screen and camera bump. The screen lip is probably fine if you don't run a glass screen protector, adding that thickness really reduces the lip.

Otherwise, I have only really spent time setting it up, not much time using it yet :).
