Not America, the greatest country in the world according to Lemmy.world, at least they must think that to always uncritically consume their propaganda.

It's happened before with the South African apartheid government. States change all the time. They're getting increasingly isolated, their leader is wanted by the Hague, they can't vacation abroad, they're being berated on social media in every app, etc. Not saying the time is soon, but people are starting to see Israel for what they are, and it won't help them.

You know Biden offered the exact same plan as Trump of the US taking over Gaza Unless you liberals start to learn the systemic causes of the US's deterioration instead of individual voters, you're going to forever be caught flat-footed as the US continues to get worse and vote in fascism. Even if you're Canadian, this shit is going to start to affect you too, because your country is also pretty capitalist and Neo-liberal.

We were built on a native American genocide. Maybe they cursed us lol.

He didn't enable a genocide at least. Although I'd say his handling of the financial crisis is up there with Biden ending pandemic benefits way too early.

Ya but when it's posted on a social media they can't control and you aren't American, they can't stop it. It's why videos of the genocide were all over Tik Tok but not US social media. The US does the same things, but with Instagram and similar (even in your first article it shows they have that capability and worse. Which checks out, I've had Instagram and FB make ad suggestions for things I've searched on completely different apps or web pages, or sometimes just something I've talked about.)

I would argue that Chinese controlled social media is better if you're trying to get past US censored channels and surveillance and you live in the US. Same if I was in China, I'd be saying the about US social media probably.

Of course fediverse service would be the best case scenario.

EU is going fascist only slightly slower than the US and has been funding an actual genocide almost as hard. They will not be the world's hope.

Thanks for the explanation!

Alt-right people are getting banned on Red Note from what I've heard.

"Stop spewing more Chinese propaganda."

Proceeds to spew US propaganda lol.

You might as well be. You're probably in one of our vassal countries if you're still falling for US propaganda.

I'm pretty new to Python because I haven't used it much for many projects over the years, but i decided to use it to make a web app recently with flask to practice. It calls a simple python program that does some file conversion. There's no database.

I'm hosting it on Python Anywhere for free right now. It's for an old TTRPG, so useful for a niche community, but probably not big enough to be worth hosting fees. Just in case, I'd also like to be able to keep an installer on my github or a Dropbox. The hope is others can still grab it, spread it, and install it long after I've lost interest or gotten hit by a bus.

From my googling, I see 3 main options:

  • Path 1: Keep the basic structure of a web app and use one of the frameworks that let me run it in a computer's browser offline.
    • The options here seem to be Flaskwebgui, Electron, or NW.js.
    • This seems the simplest and most straightforward way.
    • Web GUI is ubiquitous nowadays.
    • Part of me also doesn't like that everything has become a web app. I don't even know why. Maybe I don't like the idea of Google controlling everything.
  • Path 2: Keep the basic backend logic but rewrite the web GUI with a desktop GUI, making it more of a true native desktop app.
    • The options here seem to involve using pyinstaller and then some python GUI library/framework like Tkinter, PyQt, PySide, or Dearpygui.
    • I feel this will be slightly more work but it's a super simple UI so remaking it isn't a huge deal.
    • My instincts tell me the end result might be faster, since it won't have to deal with a browser middleman or web routes and such. But, I might be wrong, it might just be my old-ass not used to everything being an electron app nowadays.
    • Might also be more self-contained from carrying it's own libraries and not relying on browser compatibility? Idk.
    • Probably more OS dependent, though. Not sure how easy it is to make it work with PC, Mac, and Linux users.
  • Path 3: There seems to be some way to combine flask and pyinstaller so sounds like a combination of the two is an option, too. Haven't looked into this too much though since most of my search results talked about the above two paths.

So which way is best? And which framework/library/tool in that path?

So far, public trackers have been working fine for me, but think I've finally run into some niche shows that have been hard to find or only been able to find individual episodes instead of a single collected season torrent. (Nothing too special, just some baking shows.)

I'm wondering if it's finally time to look into private trackers or Usenet.

If you use them, what did it take for you to finally look into these more time or effort intensive piracy options?

A movie you wanted to see that was too old to be seeded on public trackers? TV shows too old or niche? A game, an obscure music artist? Something else? Was it just curiosity? Or something you did immediately upon getting into piracy? I'm just curious myself lol.

Has anyone seen any particularly good deals for NAS's, storage or memory, mini computers, things like that, for this Black Friday / Cyber Monday season?

Summary

California lawmakers are introducing new bills to strengthen abortion access in response to potential nationwide restrictions under Donald Trump’s presidency.

The proposals include expanding emergency abortion care, increasing access to birth control for Medi-Cal recipients, and improving licensing for alternative birthing centers.

With abortion rights enshrined in California’s constitution since 2022, the state aims to remain a sanctuary for reproductive care.

Johnston... previously pleaded guilty to a felony count of interfering with law enforcement during civil disorder in July 2024.

The 56-year-old actor was initially arrested in June 2023 after the FBI tweeted a photo requesting information about his identity. He is alleged to have led a group to the “front line of rioters confronting the police who were defending the entrance” to the Capitol, helping to launch an assault against a group of officers.

I heard about this in the UK elections recently, and someone recommended it to me recently for the US elections, because I said I empathize with the people who are voting against Kamala because of the genocide, despite being a Kamala supporter myself (you've probably seen me around arguing as such lol).

Basically, it's a system where people in safe states, like me, agree to trade votes with someone in a swing state. So the safe state person would vote with the heart of the person in the swing state, so they can kind of vote their heart and mind at the same time.

Is this a thing we could set up? Would it be legal to make a community for that, or would it rub against laws about affecting votes or something? There was even a whole site for the UK, but not sure if it would work in the US.

I need some new shoes for every day work and walking. I basically only have one pair of casual shoes, one pair of running and gym shoes, and one pair of dress shoes right now, and the first one is falling apart.

I spend most of the day in slacks and collared shirts sitting at a computer, but my work site also involves multiple buildings about 10-15 minutes walk from each other, so that surprisingly the walking and standing can add up throughout the day. Plus, like I said, only got one pair of shoes right now, so I literally wear them all the time for almost everything.

So it would be nice if I could just wear them in normal life, too, so they look good hanging out with friends, going to an amusement park, or going on a stroll. Or maybe I just need to get another pair of shoes, so I can have some that are comfortable and some that look good when I go out to a nice bar or whatever lol.

What do you guys suggest? What shoes do you guys wear for the office or normal every day use? Just white sneakers or something else? What brands or styles?

EDIT: Loving all the recommendations so far! Keep 'em coming!
