I am more worried that she is going to spoil the surprise for herself ...

Me an my GF have been sharing location for years now, it has never been an issue and often been handy to see if one of us is driving from work to home or finding each other in a festival or theme park etc.

But well I kinda wanna surprise here and for that I need to drive somewhere where I normally don't go, so now I gotta find an excuse just incase she checks my location. Or I just turn of my Phone for an hour or two

Remember that we used to have social media's in specific countries, but at least the one I know (Hyves) got bought out by the Americans iirc (or the Chinese)

Good, NVIDIA can die for all I care with their anti consumer bullshit practises.

Basically, nobody sells it, but you could technically produce milk in a way more animal friendly way. The current breads of cows all over the world have an influx in milk production, so even if you do not take the calf away and milk them manually, it would still be enough milk to use/sell.

This is all hugely theoretical unless you yourself have a couple cows that you milk for personal use or a small farm.

You are probably just anti-milk industry than actually anti-milk.

Well I agree we need a better structure to keep people in check I agree with that. Things like social media and a companies like RTL having a massive stake in private television will help to destroy the planet and keep the difference between the lower class, the middle class and the rich.

But I disagree that we should just get rid of all advertisement completely. Again there is nothing wrong with banner ads, websites, vans with logo's and other low stakes form of advertisement.

If governments would start to pay YouTubers instead of YouTubers earning money from adverts and sponsors it would not only allow the government to control the narrative, but people will still abuse the system. Same way as that social security or subsidies are abused currently.

Consdering I work in an accounting firm I do see the amount of cost some companies have with advertisment, but most of them with a lot of costs do it to get more customers. Some of them need to do it to keep their profit rising or the same.

There is an issue with misleading adverts including misleading prices (excluding tax), there is an issue with hidden ads (like logo's). But personally I think social media (including Lemmy) is just the bane of our existence. Yes a lot of that is funded by adverts, but also by selling your data and the like. Personally I believe that they are brainwashing people more with that, than with a lot of the advertisement. Ow and the people who keep on defending companies like they are their family are also a big part, people saying they are going to get Domino's instead of pizza f.e.

That I don't know, but they also show prices excluding sales tax. Some online stores even do that when they are selling to Europeans and they are required to include the VAT (we also can't know if they have to pay VAT or not)

Yeah, but that is the US and my point still stands.

Can also be in Canada and the tax would be excluded

Not sure how long iMessage has existed, but it never properly worked for me on any iPhone, and neither for my partner. I also helped others change the settings to just default to SMS. By default it doesn't show that you need to send a SMS, and it definitely doesn't retry it, at least not in NL.

There is a difference between a country being corrupt and a country having corruption or a lot of people in a country paying for corruption (in other countries). You can check the corruption index if you want.

[–] Vinstaal0 2 points 1 week ago

Yes it should, but by default it doesn't, at least not in NL

It has taken a while, but now regulating bodies are actually looking at who is the ultimate beneficial owner of a company and they will try and stop overtakes. Well, not in corrupt countries, but it is so hard to get anything properly done in a corrupt country that it doesn't surprise me.
