That sounds very solvable. I'd imagine e.g. BBC, ARTE, etc. would form a joint holding organisation that buys pre-rights and uses them as distributors. Or perhaps they still individually buy the pre-rights, and while they technically will have permission to show them everywhere, since they don't serve all the market, they don't need exclusivity. Or perhaps they all decide to grab the opportunity and start to serve the entire EU market, making them players by themselves that are able to stand up to US counterparts.

It's pretty hard to have a good discussion if you're evaluating comparisons against standards that are not relevant to the point being made. My point was not to say that the climate crisis is as unimportant as needing to wear a colander; my point was that "it doesn't work" is a bad argument, because you can also use it to justify something as ridiculous as wearing a colander.

Omdat vaak niet zichtbaar is wat er allemaal in de toeleveringsketen is gebeurd, gecombineerd met het feit dat ergens in de toeleveringsketens van een heleboel producten de VS wel een rol speelt, en er dus vaak niet een alternatief beschikbaar is. Maar bijv. alleen al als je een paar websites bezoekt is het vrijwel gegarandeerd dat je tenminste Microsoft, Amazon, Google en/of Cloudflare indirect gebruikt.

Als je trouwens een economisch signaal wil zenden, dan gaat dat denk ik ook verloren in de ruis van eigen doelpunten die de VS zelf maakt. Het positioneert zichzelf nu als zo'n onbetrouwbare partner, dat ik verwacht dat veel toeleveringsketens uit zichzelf zich al langzaam zullen verplaatsen.

(Wat me trouwens ook dwars zit: een VS-boycott voelt toch heel erg als me vooral laten leiden door mediahype. Ik vind het erg pijnlijk, jammer en eng hoe erg de VS achteruit holt, maar het zit bijv. nog niet op het niveau van China, waar we nog vrolijk zaken mee doen. Maar goed, soms als het momentum er is moet je het pakken natuurlijk.)

Niet te doen denk ik, maar je kan wel nadenken over hoe veel macht je Amerikaanse bedrijven wil geven, bijvoorbeeld of we ze invloed willen geven op wat we horen of zeggen. Nou moet ik zeggen dat ik sowieso altijd al wel wantrouwend was tegenover grote techbedrijven, maar ik ben extra blij met bijv. het momentum dat Signal lijkt te hebben. Hopelijk kijken onze politici ook niet meer op Twitter.
