I'd like to move all my business away from Walmart, and their pharmacy is one service we use often.

While I know there are "lesser evils" than Shoppers, they are walking distance away, and that's important to me.

Can anyone share their experience with Shoppers for their pharmacy, and even better would be from anyone who's switched from Walmart Pharmacy to Shoppers.

Thanks in advance.

I use quite a few methods for making coffee, including metal filters (pour over, french press, etc.).

One thing to note is that paper filters absorb the oils and very fine sediments, where metal filters do not. This can change the coffee's profile quite a bit, so it's down to personal preference for the most part.

That said, if you've used paper filters and can switch to reusable, metal screens, then it's going to be better in the long-run.

Construction jobs weak as housing targets missed

I'm not sure where these homes are NOT being built, but Durham Region is almost unrecognizable because of the urban sprawl of the last 2-3 years. It's pretty alarming, actually, because most developments are single detached with very few high-density projects.

That's exactly it. Easy to block ads and trackers on a website, but more difficult or impossible on some apps.

One of the banking apps won't show the total balance of the account unless I'm using the app. How ridiculous.

As I've been making an effort to replace apps with the browser version of the service. It's so abundantly clear that companies don't want you using their website.

Even if they don't outright cripple functionality, they'll hound you endlessly to install the app.

It's infuriating to say the least.

A driver murdered him, not a sentient SUV.

In that context, look for insulated work gloves that are rubber coated on the outside.

I had to run errands in the pouring rain recently, and those performed really well!

Everything I’m seeing says the song was released 9 months ago, but how can it refrence Elon Musk’s Nazi salute if it was released in 2024?

Can you clarify what are you talking about? The song was released last week (Feb 11, 2025). Elon did his 2x Nazi salute last month.

Macklemore's been pissed about the things he sings about for quite a while, but this is a new song.

I'm seeing several online grocery stores now listing Canadian and local products. Stickers in store, too!

Best to check the lables, too. There are differences between "Made in Canada", "Product of Canada", "Assembled in Canada", "Packed in Canada"... Etc.

At the bare minimum, you're still supporting Canadian workers regardless of which one of those is listed on the label.

"And Elon, we know exactly what that was, brah." 🤭

Trump freed 1500 criminals who wanted to kill elected officials in a terrorist-style seige of the capital.

But yeah, go punish a national hero.

Good, keep going.

And dear Canadian Grocers... PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR, do not enshittify things so we regret giving you money.

There's no reason to be greedy, and we all want to make sure that our money stays in Canada. Keep providing Canadian goods, and we'll keep paying for it. It's so simple, so don't fuck this up.

When the dummy was dressed in the reflective jacket, the CR-V didn’t slow in any of the trials, regardless of additional roadway lighting.

You can't win. Wear all black to be "seen" by cars, or high-visibility to be seen by drivers and ignored by cars. 🤞

When mapping buildings, I'll switch between the ESRI and Bing satellite maps, since they both offer different "freshnes" and clarity, depending on the area.

However, when I use my official municipal or regional websites, they have ESRI maps that appear to be quite a bit newer.

Is the licensing different across different ESRI imagery sources, or could I use the more updated one as a guideline?

EDIT: I think I found my answer from the official OpenStreetMap Wiki:

" Esri is a corporate member of the Foundation."

~~"Esri allowed the usage of Esri World Imagery (and its variants) in OSM mapping, without restrictions and requirements. Even attribution is not legally required."~~

~~This is wonderful news! Having satellite images from only a few months ago, rather than a few years ago, is a game-changer!~~

So this might have been overly optimistic. There may be additional licensing restrictions on variants outside what's available in the OSM editor.

I keep seeing this in edits, but where can you view this "Lyft-owned street-level imagery"??

Even searching for it comes up with nothing.

As I was looking at a local municipality's "Community Strategic Plan", they listed some "Top Achievements" for the previous year.

Among them was "Increased bike lanes by 1.01km in 2023."

I mean, seriously? A whole kilometre that was split between two different projects?! /s

Anyone else feel like their municipality is simply doing the bare minimum for cyclists so they can pat themselves on the back?

If you visit https://bikepacking.com/index/ and look under each category, they will list products and note the country of origin, which has in the past helped me find gear that is made here in Canada.

For example:

Hopefully, this helps someone :)

Ford’s office made the announcement Monday and said the government is also banning other American companies from provincial contracts going forward

UPDATE: Thank you guys for all the suggestions! I got Navidrome installed on my NAS in a matter of minutes, got to test like a half dozen Subsonic compatible apps (both FOSS and Play Store), and it looks like Symfonium + Navidrome meets my needs. I'll keep testing before my free trial for Symfonium ends, but I really appreciate the nudge to try a new music server!

I'm self-hosting my music collection (synology NAS), and while I've liked Poweramp, it only reads local music files, which means I have to copy many GB of music to my phone, even if I'm not particularly listening to it.

The Synology DS Audio app actually does what I want: it caches music locally as you're streaming it, but it reads directly from the NAS.

The only problem with DS Audio is that it sucks as an actual music player.

Are there any Android music players, preferably FOSS or at least privacy-friendly, that will read from the NAS and cache in an intelligent way but also works well as an actual music player?

I did try Symfonium, but couldn't get it to work with Webdav or SMB, plus the dev comes off as a real asshole, so I'd rather not give them money.

EDIT: To clarify what I'm looking for:

  • The app must be able to connect to my NAS music collection (through my local network is fine).
  • Most importantly, the app must be able to cache my music either as I'm streaming it, or in advance when I'm running through a playlist... then future plays of the song should be from the cache.
  • I do NOT want to have to manually download or sync files, which is how I've been doing, and I don't like this at all.

If you've used the Synology DS Audio app, then you'll know exactly the behaviour I'm looking for. It really is a shame that DS Audio sucks as a music player, or else it would be exactly what I'm looking for.

The per 100g price makes it seem like the 1kg (bottom) item is cheaper than the 2kg one.

I wonder how many people are baited into getting the more expensive item (by weight).

As I was riding my bike through some local areas (Durham Region, Ontario), it was snowy/rainy and pretty miserable, but the birds of prey were all out!

First, I came across a Red-Tailed Hawk just chilling on a fence.

So chill that I was able to ride right by them without even getting a flinch.

Then as I'm heading home through a bike path that cuts through a small local forest, I see a Barred Owl (OP photo). This is the first time seeing an owl up close in the wild, despite knowing they are in the area. The only other time I've seen an Owl in the wild was on a very dark trail at night, and they flew into my line of sight just fast enough for me to catch a glimpse (later confirmed to be an owl from my bike's camera).

As I'm taking photos of this guy, I switch to video mode. He's relaxed, then starts darting his head around, looking up... then I see a Cooper's Hawk fly over head, land in a tree next to this one, and starts calling like crazy! He flew off shortly after, and I caught this (the owl is in the tree on the right):

I generally seek out birds of prey, but am rarely lucky enough to spot one in the course of a day. Seeing three different species in a matter of hours is super rare for me!
