Income tax always struck me as a deliberate way to make your average joe hate taxes when they could, very easily, be calculated at time of payroll without you ever being shown the “pre tax” amount.

Recalling all Canadian hockey players in the American hockey league?

Sounds like an excellent way to compile a list of those with some reason to fear public retribution for their actions though

Solid 2/3 parts himbo energy if you ignore the fact that he’s a talking sponge.

I can’t not play realistic mode anymore. I’ll usually start with extra cash just so I can overbuild a little in the beginning, but besides that everything on max difficulty helps me maximize the suffering - I mean efficiency.

Inefficient workmen may or may not have neglected to staff the heating plant, causing a mass freeze. Mass die offs are a staple of any burgeoning republic, I narrowly avoided another one caused by food shortages thanks to road paving.

Workers and Resources - Soviet Republic

It will never not be hilarious that a bunch of depressed Slovakian game devs saw people praising communism’s “efficiency” and were like “we’ll show you morons the efficiencies of communism”.

Only ~1300 people have died in this current playthrough, and I’m partway through the third year. Fuckyouistan will rise again!

One of the few things I go back to the old site for is /r/eatcheapandhealthy - you need the time to make the food, but you can make very little cash go a long way, especially if you’re buying beans/lentils/oats dried and soaking them overnight rather than buying canned.

China states that eating food reduces symptoms of starvation

WELL I GUESS AS A DEMOCRAT I MUST ABSTAIN FROM ALL FOOD TO PROVE THEM WRONG

My gut reaction would be “actions still have consequences motherfucker”, but my gut would also be to immediately remove this person from ever interacting with me again.

Sometimes, the results of something you do don’t quite match your intentions. Mistakes happen, miscommunications happen. A genuine person would respond “oh fuck, that is NOT how I meant that”, and apologize. A gaslighter does the above.

That’s an awful lot of words to say it’s a backdoor that could, plausibly, have been installed unintentionally, but is still very much a backdoor.

One of the most interesting details about the Nuremberg trials, which I only learned from the ever excellent Robert Evans on a podcast, is the controversy over how many of the crimes Nazis were executed weren’t really “crimes” - international law wasn’t really a thing, and they weren’t really illegal under German law.

Yet we hung the Nazis anyways, because they were the fuckin’ Nazis. I find this a comforting thought in these times.

If you’re in need of additional fortification, the article on John Clarence Woods might help, the hangman who very incompetently and thus painfully executed nazi leadership - there is also a Behind the Bastards on him, possibly the one that discusses the trials iirc.
