I don't know how to set it up, but using a sunshine server on the desktop and moonlight client on the laptop/tablet might be a solution.
Don't know that book specifically but I think that it was written by Richard Scarry.
If you don't mind the "Cute girls doing cute things" genre then maybe Endro~! or "I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level". Both are light hearted comedy fantasy series.
