Yeah, I prefer ownership over subscription to a service too. It's a bit easier to justify with the family plan and sharing costs.

Murder by Numbers - it's picross + detective visual novel. While the core gameplay is nonogram puzzles, the visual novel parts involves finding clues and interrogations as an amateur detective. Probably not exactly what you're looking for, but it's a surprisingly fun game and I highly recommend it.

Thanks, I think I found it. Good point regarding the technology and how you can just switch instances in case there's anything wrong.

That's a good point about the 3DS eShop. I was one of the ones who was making sure I have all my stuff downloaded until the end.
