Het gaat om het afschrikkingseffect.

De VS en Rusland hebben er zo'n 3700 en 5800 volgens wikipedia.

De reden waarom ze beiden veel kernwapens gingen bouwen (die beiden nu genoeg zijn om de hele wereld plat te gooien) is vanwege het idee dat als je tegenstander er veel heeft, dat jij er net zoveel moet hebben, omdat je tegenstander waarschijnlijk ook heel veel capaciteiten heeft om kernwapens te onderscheppen.

Dit is een domme wedstrijd en domme wapenwedloop, maar ik vrees dat het nodig is om een goede en sterke nucleaire stok achter de rug te hebben, om de Russen (en wellicht de Amerikanen) in toom te houden.

Het is duidelijk: Europa moet op eigen benen staan en het is tijd voor een verenigd Europees leger. Helaas is dat makkelijker gezegd dan gedaan, want er blijven nog een boel vragen over:

1. Wie bestuurt het?
2. Waar komen de soldaten vandaan?
3. Hoe zorg voor goede samenwerking & communicatie?
4. Hoe bouw je op korte termijn de afhankelijkheid af van de amerikanen?

En uiteindelijk vind ik zelf ook dat het weer tijd is voor de ouderwetse wapenwedloop met kernwapens. Frankrijk en Engeland hebben er gezamenlijk zo'n 400, maar ik vind dat als de EU z'n veiligheid wil garanderen, moeten we er minstens 1000 - 2000 kernkoppen hebben om een goed, fatsoenlijk afschrikkingseffect te hebben. Ik weet dat dit standpunt impopulair is onder links-progressieve kringen, maar in deze onzekere en onveilige tijden denk ik dat dit een nodig kwaad is.

Ik ben zelf lid geworden van Volt. Waarom? Simpelweg omdat dat de partij is waar ik het zelf het meest mee eens ben.

Ik ben zelf in het begin nog 2x naar een partijbijeenkomst gegaan, maar ivm gebrek aan tijd heb ik vrijwel al het contact met partijgenoten verloren. Ik krijg nog wel regelmatig emails van Volt, wat ik wel leuk vind, want dan blijf ik een beetje op de hoogte van wat er gebeurd.

It seems that while this update once again contains lots of (unncessary) AI bullshit, it also has some other positive changes, such as :

• More End-To-End encrypted functionality
• Improved file upload (apparently 6x as fast)
• Better performance
• Converting documents
• Native desktop client UI (hopefully the new appImage does work for Linux, because it does not work right now.
• Improved AppAPI for other developers to develop plugins / apps / extensions in different programming languages
• Added pronouns to account profile
• Right-To-Left text for the Arabic users (and whoever uses RTL instead of LTR)
• PGP/MIME support for Nextcloud Mail
• Chunked file upload on desktop app
• Improved OpenID Connect API

Overall, I am still disappointed by the direction towards AI that Nextcloud has taken, but I suspect that it makes them more money. Also, apparently large organizations / enterprises who pay Nextcloud GmbH for support, are also allowed to influence the roadmap of the software, which probably has something to do with jumping on the AI bandwagon.

However, despite this new direction, Nextcloud still does the job for me: Easy file syncing, with document collaboration, calendar, contacts and basically act as a whole replacement for Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace / whatever with little to no problems.

Looks like the arms race with nukes are back on the table... Ugh, whatever it takes to keep Europe safe I guess... I'd rather not have this, but unfortunately it seems like the 180 turn by the US and Russia's agression is forcing Europe to do this.

Be aware that some member states (such as Slovakia, Austria and Hungary) are playing a big role in this, as they have explicitly stated that they do not want to stop consuming Russian gas due to the cheap prices.

While some member states (such as Germany & the Netherlands) are actively reducing the dependence on Russia, others are actively increasing it, which skews the average results and lead to articles like these.

Not surprising tbh.

I'm expecting him to falsely claim election fraud tomorrow after the exit polls in Germany close. If the result isn't AfD at 99%, he'll probably demand new elections and/or only recognize Weidel as Chancellor instead of Merz.

Lots of populist European parties are doing the same and are actually gaining votes by blaming everything on the immigrants.
