The Linux kernel is a few hundred million lines of code, probably. It does need to slowly be moved into a memory safe language.

I don’t know. Having a family member with dual citizenship gives me a good comparison between the US and the UK. Both of our governments are getting very Orwellian.
I hope I am wrong, but we’re now essentially being run by an unelected oligarch. Authoritarian regimes like the US will see it and demand the same for here.

Go to an electronics recycling center and get a retired thinkpad (or 5). Once they’re decommissioned by corporations, they wipe the drive and send them off to be recycled.

I already have. Long before the threat of tariffs. I shop thrift stores, yard sales, and social media markets. I go to electronics recyclers and find perfectly good laptops that just need an OS installed.
I’ve had the same phone since 2017, and the same car for 10+ years, neither of which were new when I got them.
