I agree about roguelikes generally, although Hades was so special. I also only finished it 2-3 times and then watched the real ending on YouTube.
What was the standout for you?
Yeah, I read the longer statement defining what they meant with the tagline "come back stronger" so Saros has me really excited. I loved Hades for instance for this reason. Seems like they will be leaning more on story too, so I'm sure that's a reason. Their metrics probably show that many haven't finished Returnal, so they are hopefully making sure it's more accessible. I honestly think that is why they added coop to Returnal, to make it easier without compromising their original vision. I just reinstalled it to give it another go. I hear the first 2 bosses are the hardest also. So I watched a walkthrough on the first boss (which I've died to about 7 times already) as a refresher and to help me get over the hump.
Didn't realize Survivor was on Extra. Looks like I'll be waiting even longer.
Agreed on Hell is Us. If it's a soulslike I'll be disappointed. They have stated that it isn't, but I'm not sure how much of that is them true versus not wanting to be pigeonholed.
That's odd about mindseye. If true then count me out.
Things I liked:
- Saros. Still need to finish Returnal and played the shit out of Resogun on PS4. I love Housemarque. I just need to git gud, play it coop without someone, or ... get it on PC and mod it (don't hate ok)
- Darwin's Paradox. Seems like it would scratch the Limbo/Inside itch.
- Hell is Us. (🤞 Please don't be a soul like)
- Jedi Survivor coming to PS+ (thank goodness I held off on every sale so far as I've been wary of performance issues)
- Shinobi 2. Loved the art style
- Split Fiction. I don't need to see more. Super excited for it
- Splitgate 2. Optimistic for it but still a little wary. Loved the first one as it really felt like Halo gunplay.
- The Midnight Walk. Not a horror game fan, but that art style is undeniably gorgeous. Cool that's it's coming to PSVR2 also. Might have to pick one up eventually
Things I didn't like:
- Mindseye. Story trailer looked awesome, but the gameplay segment was just clips of them shooting cars until they explode. The gameplay looked very one note.
- Metal Eden. Trailer looked dope, but some gameplay footage I watched afterwards dampened my hype a bit. Hopefully it can succeed as a Cyberpunk version of Doom.
- WWE 2K 25 the Island. I mean, do I need to say anything? Who wants a shitty WWE version of PlayStation Home?
The rest I thought was ok. I'm a little excited for Borderlands 4, but I never finished Borderlands 3, so I'll have to finish that first to at least justify it. Also, didn't Gearbox have some controversy? I can't remember.
I remember the very first one on PC and diving in the mansion pool over and over thinking "no way graphics can get better than this"
Yeah, I've played it with a friend or 2 before and liked it a lot more. After Astro I feel character movement is too slow and I have to stop punch combos to change direction otherwise I keep punching in the direction I started. I end up rolling everywhere because it's faster. Playing single player really highlights the slow mobility.
Is it possible to get a double platinum? Lol
We've been playing Cat Quest 3 which she likes, and just started Sackboy with her. But she still wants Astro. And I should clarify that she just watches me play. She says "just you play, I will play when I am 5"
Just got the platinum on this and my daughter wants me to do it again. So good timing but after I hyped her up and played the 1 new level she said "...that's it?"
Glad you're loving it!
Woah woah woah there buddy. My mom's mobile gaming experience begs to differ. Where else can she play Spybot Microtransaction Slot Machine Ad Watcher Farm Simulator 9000? Checkmate.
Hmmm, sounds like the game Dreams tbh. I don't have high hopes but time will tell.
