I understand what lentils and rice are good for, but what on earth did Ben do to deserve being cooked?
Bunbury
I feel there is a certain maximum amount of influence a for profit company should be allowed to grow to. They have long surpassed it.
The other ones for me are: Neil Gaiman because of the recent sexual abuse/ coercion thing with multiple victims and the band Disturbed because of the political views of their lead singer.
Yeah, I too just can’t unsee her influence in her work. I would have made a deliberate choice to no longer support her with my money, even if I could still enjoy HP. But it turns out my brain just won’t let me enjoy any of it anymore. Things I used to enjoy suddenly being almost revolting to me only ever happened to me with 3 different artists and she is one of them.
Couldn’t agree more. Those books were my safe space growing up. I miss being able to enjoy them. Sadly it doesn’t work that way for me anymore. They feel tainted and wrong to me now.
Fair. I do really hope that the fans who think like that do make a point of differentiating between HP stuff that does line JK’s pocket and stuff that doesn’t. It’s one thing writing or reading fan fiction but a wholly different thing to buy the latest game for example. I personally lost interest because I can not unsee her influence on the world she created. Wish I could though. It used to be such a comfort when I could still enjoy it.
I think the concept is frequently called “Death of the Author”. It’s the idea that you can see a text or piece of art as entirely removed from the artist themselves. In the case of Rowling I would argue this is a bad idea as she is actively seeing support for any of her work, regardless if fictional or otherwise, as active support for her view on trans people.
Whenever I see another example of how that woman is attacking marginalized people who are just trying to live their life multiple things happen:
-
I feel horrible for trans people - especially (former) Harry Potter fans. And I remember that her comments have real life impact directly and indirectly leading to more trans deaths both self inflicted and by violent attacks.
-
I wonder how I can best publicly boycott her work as she has stated that she sees any support for her work as people agreeing with her bullying
-
I remember that there is no way in which a well adjusted, mentally healthy, happy person would act this way. So I at least rest a bit easier knowing she’s miserable.
Honestly I think there’s a strong difference between people reacting to content who are adding value (eg adding meaning information, elaborating on their opinion, etc) and people who “react to content” just to get away with reposting the content. The second group tends to try to obscure as little of the original video as they can get away with and if you subscribe to them you effectively get a pre-curated list of somewhat interesting videos (if you can ignore their heads or a silly automated voiceover).
Sadly both groups often don’t credit the original creators, so whoever actually made the original content tends to be out of luck regarding getting their fair share of revenue or digital traffic.
The image still shows for me, but it’s the cover of “Witch in Darkness” by Kelly-Ann Maddox. Also “witchy librarian” sound like such a fun time.
Omg! Is THAT what they did? I remember when that movie came on tv and Ioved the road trip bit in the beginning and then it suddenly all stopped making sense all at once. I never watched it again because I didn’t realize that wasn’t just what the movie is. Mind blown. Thank you.
Pavement does heat up more in the sun. Might have been a mainly sunny day.
