I'm still able to separate the work from the creator in his case. Don't fuck that up, Bill.

Mammals only make brown, but we do a lot with it.

Eh, I don't have to eat it.

Mirror universe Musk would probably be a humanitarian on the scale of Norman Borlaug, if the pendulum swings just as hard the other way.

If Tom Skeritt wants to watch, Tom Skeritt gets to watch.

I don't know why but matching Uncle Davids, in matching shirts, with matching pudding is exactly what I needed today.

That's actually the area I currently work in, though not banking specifically. We do financial software for small governments. All the software was written in the 80s and 90s and we're babying it along well into the 2030s in all likelihood. Those old systems require very specific environments which we're now trying to emulate in the cloud. It's fairly specific at the end of the day. And because this small government segment is currently undergoing consolidation I know what we see is the norm.

Thankfully I just have to maintain the cloud infrastructure and making it as reliable and secure as possible.

I don't like living in the future as much as young me thought I would.

I would say you can't separate the two. It's a natural extension of Gall's Law, the simple system that works is the stack.

If this is a whole genre of cat pics, I must see more.

I saved my fortune cookie for a snack, and it turns out this guy really like how they smell.

Alt Title: How to take over the world using abandoned S3 Buckets

Watchtowr has moved on from using expired domains to assume authority over entire TLDs and instead is using blind trust in S3 addresses to infiltrate governments and militaries across the world.

The TL;DR is that this time, we ended up discovering ~150 Amazon S3 buckets that had previously been used across commercial and open source software products, governments, and infrastructure deployment/update pipelines - and then abandoned.

As for the research itself, it panned out progressively, with S3 buckets registered as they were discovered. It went rather quickly from “Haha, we could put our logo on this website” to “Uhhh, .mil, we should probably speak to someone”.

These S3 buckets received more than 8 million HTTP requests over a 2 month period for all sorts of things -

  • Software updates,
  • Pre-compiled (unsigned!) Windows, Linux and macOS binaries,
  • Virtual machine images (?!),
  • JavaScript files...

Not as catchy as "swasticar," but I like it.

Good evening, Nick and fight fans throughout the Federation! Tonight, we bring you a battle of the virtual assistants—a clash of the quirky, the helpful, and the homicidal!

That's right Johnny. Badgey has a tip for Clippy, and it's at the end of a bat'leth.

Cuts are coming one way or another due to budget sort falls, but one of the three austerity scenarios would hit the libraries extra hard. Based on what I've heard a $2 million budget cut would certainly lead to fewer librarians, and quite possibly a branch closure as well. The last rounds of cuts are already adding up to somewhere in the $2 million region.

Might be good to pay some extra visits to the library and/or use some of the e-book services in the next few months. Help get the census numbers up a bit.

A large fulfillment center is being build next to the airport. Evidence seems to indicate it's amazon

I haven't been past the McDonald in a couple years. I'm going to have to make a point to detour that way when I'm next downtown.

I just stumbled on this new unofficial YT channel that's doing an episode by episode history lesson on MST3k, starting with the KTMA season. The main post link is the trailer and episode 1 on the Green Slime is also up.

According to the trailer she'll be each episode posting next Sunday AD, as is meant to be.

My high school friends and I used recite the Booze Council PSA at each other all the time. It's been running though my head since I saw the the Friday news dump. So I appreciated TV's Frank posting a link on BlueSky.

I was cleaning out our car after 17 years of loyal service and I found these unused tickets to see The Toasters at a great venue in Eugene, Oregon from January,08.

My wife and I aren't sure why we didn't go (or give away the tickets) but it probably was a combo of it being a Wednesday and that we moved the weekend before.

My gift's wrapping paper knows that Santa can't get his work done without Tux.Fittingly, inside were 3 PiZeros.

The only Christmas Carol I look forward to. From an episode that originally aired in July (Touch of Satan).

Enjoy the great taste of wassail, in cans!
