Are there no 12' skellingtons in the states? My town is filthy with them. I've never felt so safe as I do right now with all these gigantic bone daddies.

Context is a fickle mistress like that. I have deffo overlooked options because the surroundings were different.

I mean, I kinda did post an ad as an example, lol. But it was the most concise video I could find in like 30 seconds of looking! I am in no way shilling for whoever the company was. Any cold shrink brand will be more or less equivalent.

And you're welcome! I do like being helpful in areas I know things about.

In this case they can pass the cost onto the customer. The higher restrictions will always result in higher costs, so they're probably used to it.

Ok, thought so. Another option is gel splice covers. They're a plastic box with waterproof goo in them to cover the connection. This is just one example, but there are plenty. Wago sells some specifically for their splice connectors. There are also some where you mix your own goo, but I've never seen or used them.

Wait... How are you splicing the wires? Crimped butt splices?

[–] Alabaster_Mango@lemmy.ca 43 points 6 days ago (6 children)

Maybe you can get your hands on cold shrink tubing? It's a rubbery tube stretched over a plastic frame thingy. You pull the frame out and the rubber shrinks down. No heat needed.

Jupiter Ascending is, in my opinion, a masterpiece. Bees can sense royalty? Fantastic. The bureaucracy android having to bribe his way through the system he was literally created to navigate? Marvelous. Don't even get me started on the air roller skates. Eddie Redmayne's four million year old teenager was perfection too. Two volume levels: harsh whisper or screaming.

It was marketed as some kind of amazing epic, so people approached it wrong I think. It was a Wachowski film. What were they expecting? I went in there assuming it'd be like their Speed Racer movie, but in space. I was not disappointed.

Second vote would be for Speed Racer, lol.

Only partner Digimon can revert. The natural Digivolution is seemingly permanent. I've never seen an episode where a Digimon reverted without a Digivice involved.

A Digivice is a tool that the human partner has. It's what allows the partner Digimon to access higher forms earlier.

He Digivolves into the next stage, like BetelGammamon, and gets more mature and intelligent. After the fight he reverts back to Gammamon and is like a child again.

Digivolution happens on a set scale:
Fresh -> In-Training -> Rookie -> Champion -> Ultimate -> Mega

Most partner Digimon are Rookies. Their bond with their human partner allows them to climb that ladder.

Edit:

Not all Digimon are as child-like as Gammamon. He is especially young for a partner Digimon. Like, Agumon is also a Rookie, but he's more like a teen or young adult. Gammamon is like a 5 year old. As Digimon age they naturally Digivolve, but most of their cognitive development seems to happen during their In-Training and Rookie stages. Fresh are just babies so they don't really do much.

Just to clarify a bit: Digimon are not pets. They're always treated as friends. Well, in Digimon Ghost Game the main Digimon Gammamon (best boi) is more treated as a little brother. He is very young though, and has the mind and mannerisms of a young child. When he Digivolves he gets more mature, but after fights he's back to young little Gammamon.

The original Digimon Tamagotchi toys weren't super cannon to the lore that got built up in the animes. They were more akin to the Pocket Pikachu in that you were just raising a lil guy.

In the shows, the digital world is a consequence of technology. Kinda. It's accessible via computers and stuff. It is, like, "housed" on the internet, but it's a fully parallel universes (basically). This can change a bit per series (or maybe I'm misremembering).

Digimon live there naturally and have their own wants and dreams. Some are more animalistic in nature and intelligence, but most are sapient and can speak. Some Digimon are a direct result of humanity's thoughts and feelings and are based on real world myths. Others seem to be wholly unique creatures.

In "the wild" Digimon can Digivolve naturally based on their age. This type of Digivolution is seemingly permanent. If the Digimon is paired with a human partner, and there is a Digivice involved, they can attain higher levels without needing to age up, and they can return to their previous state after a time.

The Digivolution track is not linear. What branch they go down depends on a few factors, but is mainly an emotional thing. An angry Digimon will Digivolve into a different form than the same type of Digimon that is happy. In Digimon Adventure 01 for example, Greymon will normally Digivolve into MetalGreymon. One episode he is forced to Digivolve by his partner though, and becomes a much more evil SkullGreymon. When Digimon Digivolve they mostly maintain their memories, but the new forms can sometimes come with drastic personality changes. Kinda like how Ash's Charizard was obstinate compared to the much more agreeable Charmander it started out as.

Perhaps this is a protest post, lol. If anyone knows how to appeal a removed post let me know.

I've been playing a bunch of Rusted Moss lately. It's a Twin Stick Shooter Metroidvania, which is appreciably different from the Hack and Slash type I normally play. Getting used to mouse-and-keyboarding a platform heavy game took a bit. And boy are there platforms.

While elements of Metroidvanias are there, this game leans way further into the platforming. I would say it's closer to Celeste than Hollow Knight. Imagine Celeste, but instead of a magic dash and climbing gear Madeline had a gun and a chatty grappling hook.

Anyways, I've been enjoying the heck outta this game and wanted to share. While you're here I will accept any and all Metroidvania recommendations. Except for Cookie Cutter probably.

So many books have characters remark "it was well past moonrise", or something else equally ridiculous, to show the passage of time at night. ~~The moon cycle is a month long (~27 days), not some paltry 24 hours.~~ If you know any authors please spread the word. Together we can stamp out this astronomical disillusionment!

[EDIT]

A smarter than me commenter below pointed out that, due to the way days work, it does indeed rise and set once a day. Hard to do a complete rotation and keep a celestial body in the sky. Womp womp, I am silly.

I should have instead argued that moon rise and set are not linked to sun rise and set, and that the moon doesn't exclusively rise and set at night. It is possible to have the moon out during the day time. They are on different schedules is all.

Sgt. Fern Spellman couldn't stay for any more questions as there was a report of a caricature artist welding a pencil two streets over.

Seriously, I don't think that thing was sharp at all.

This looks great. I love the raccoon take on classic RPG classes like Mess Magus (Wizard) and Dumpster Diviner (Cleric). You can get the PDF for as little as $10USD.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Wet Ink Games. I just like raccoons and TTRPGs.

An older Air Fryer that used a halogen bulb for the heating element instead of a resistive coil. Here's Mr. T selling one.

My precious kitty loved laying in cat food flats and on pizza boxes.

This unofficial series follows human progression into the solar system. Starting from putting a base on the moon and going all the way to discovering ancient alien ruins outside our solar system.

I think it's pretty neat how optimistic and diverse it is. There's a prominent Native American character. Fantastic!

Caveat, some women get thrown in fridges pretty suddenly and for seemingly no narrative reason. Not all women though, so kind of weird.

I had one of these growing up, they were great! I also got the Pokémon Pikachu 2 GS version when it came out. Personally I preferred the Digimon D-3 Digivice virtual pet, but they were all fun!

What is the Cypher System

The Cypher System is a setting-agnostic tabletop role playing game system designed by Monte Cook Games. It's less crunchy than D&D while still having a bit of math for the nerds in your party. Setting agnostic means it can be played in any setting and still make sense. You supply the story, Cypher is the mechanics. If building a whole new world isn't up your alley, then you can always try one of the currently published settings.

Old Gus' Cypher System Reference Document (OG-CSRD) aims to be an easy-to-use reference when running or playing a Cypher game.

The Cypher System Rulebook is a thick tome with a lot of stuff in it, but as it's setting-agnostic not all of that stuff is needed. You won't need any of the space or robot stuff if you're doing a fantasy game, for instance. That's where the OG-CSRD comes in handy. Ctrl + F your problems, or use the swanky hyperlinks. It's easier to navigate than the PDF version of the rule book, and it doesn't take up shelf space.

Settings

Monte Cook Games has released a number of settings. These add flavor to the base system and turn it into a full game. Most have a few premade adventures included to get you started. All settings require the Cypher System Rule Book (or OG-CSRD) to play.

Godforsaken - Sword and Sorcery

The Stars Are Fire - Sci-Fi and Space

Stay Alive - Spooky Horror

We Are All Mad Here - Alice in Wonderland Flavored

Claim the Sky - Modern Hopeful Superheroes

The Origin - Modern Gritty Superheroes

Unmasked - Eighties Dark Superheroes

First Responders - Exactly what it sounds like

Gods of the Fall - Celestial Fantasy

Predation - Time Travel and Dinosaurs

Stand Alone Games

There are also a few TTRPGs running on the Cypher System. Some are published by Monte Cook, others are licensing the system.

The Strange - You're basically an MTG Planeswalker

~~Old Gods of Appalachia - Eldritch Hillbillies~~

Vurt - Cyberpunk with questionable intimacy

Shotguns and Sorcery - Fantasy Noir

Upcoming Games

These aren't out yet, but the hype is real. It's Kickstarter and some untested creators, so bear with them.

Old Gods of Appalachia - Eldritch Hillbillies

Tidal Blades 2 - Fish, people, and fish-people

Harrow: The Blighted Plane - Burning Man Crystal Punk

Ptolus - Much loved, much less pronounced

And Many More

I mean, probably. I don't know everything, so feel free to add to the list.

Edit: I'm from the future and forgot that Old Gods of Appalachia isn't out for y'all yet. Fixed
