For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

Isn't that apostrophe possessive? Shouldn't it have been Xs? Not a native English speaker, so just asking.

[–] Lazylazycat@lemmy.world 34 points 2 years ago

Yes, you're correct. Musk is not very clever.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 14 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I hate being pedantic but misuse of apostrophes drives me crazy for some reason...

It's not The ABC's, it's The ABCs..

It's not The 90's, it's The 90s or The '90s..

The usage rules are so simple and it never involves pluralization

Mmmm, it's and its would like a word with you. Not pluralization but definitely the one that makes it less than simple.

Also, the other weird one is words/names that already end in 's'

Like if Mr Jones owns something, that's Mr Jones' car

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah that's fair. It's mainly the unnecessary addition of the apostrophe that irks me..especially with acronyms.

Jones' and Jones's are both correct though! The latter just looks stupid even though we pronounce the extra S regardless

[–] ramplay@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

I did not know Jones's was valid actually! And honestly, I learned that rule from level names in Ty the Tasmanian tiger, like "Cass' Pass" when I thought they fucked up as a kid.

Mainly just was adding on! I'm similar when I learn rules like that or when I finally nailed the 'to' vs 'too' thing, I tend to also get irked by their misuses after I get them down

What a stupid stupid move. “Tweet” is in the dictionary, it’s people’s standard vocab word for any kind of short post.

It’s like if Johnson & Johnson decided to rename Band-Aid to strips. Why would you lose decades of advertising and free advertising by people using your name?

[–] Aurenkin@sh.itjust.works 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes but X cool letter. If X lose much dollar at least X still cool letter.

[–] ramplay@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

X is my least favourite letter because it's literally synonymous with to much in math/computer science and other fields. Heck it even exists in the social media space as a xposting (crossposting)

[–] xantoxis@lemmy.one 27 points 2 years ago

What a lazy fucking response by this dumbshit. Just an absolute spacetime-warping black hole of creativity, sucking in everything clever and good around him and allowing nothing back out past the event horizon of his ineptitude.

[–] dreadedsemi@lemmy.world 18 points 2 years ago (3 children)
  • I saw your X
  • what? Where? I didn't see my ex yesterday.
  • what?
  • what?
[–] Mr_Blott@lemmy.world 8 points 2 years ago

WHAT'S THIS ABOUT EGGS

[–] sic_1@feddit.de 7 points 2 years ago
  • No I reXed your X
  • Oh boy, in for a ride then
[–] kablammy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Who's on first?

[–] Aganim@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago

Xcrements.. "They Xcreted it on X" sounds appropriate.

[–] gerbilOFdoom@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

Well, you'd previously tweet it. Now you'd exit.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 11 points 2 years ago

Imagine this from a branding perspective. Everyone calls them tweets. Nobody calls them posts. And they want to throw that away.

[–] hamFoilHat@lemmy.world 10 points 2 years ago

I'm going to absolutely say that someone xed out an x. I'm also pronouncing the name of the company as ten. I'm also going to be correcting anyone that calls it Twitter.

[–] KevonLooney@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Just say you xeeted something or someone. (Pronounced "skeeted")

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

You're full of xeet.

[–] ramplay@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 years ago

What but it woild be pronounced 'zeeted'... Don't go breaking the rules of x now

[–] Tenshi@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

I'll x you tomorrow

[–] gjoel@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

Considering his naming history we should be relieved it's just X and not X#15n🐙...

[–] Vapofusion@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

I'm simply gonna keep calling it twitter and tweets.

Best of both worlds. Big manbaby will get annoyed and I don't do anything differently!
