You hate feudalism? Yet you toil the lord´s land, curious. Feudalism has lifted more people from poverty than anything else this far. Greek democracy? Failed. Roman democracy? Failed and turned into a dictatorship It fails everytime it has been tried.

"What we have is crony feudalism"

[–] Zuzak@hexbear.net 22 points 1 year ago

We basically already have liberal democracy because the king's power is kept in check by the aristocrats.

If you don't like being a peasant on Lord Dickwrinkle the III's lands then why don't you go be a peasant on Lord Flappybuttcheeks the II's lands? very-intelligent

real feudalism has never been tried! the imperial immediacy of the city of hamburg has corrupted our good institutions and made the peasants impoverished! return hamburg to a count!

The lords take care of the peasants. They give them land to farm, a place to live. And you’d take that away from them? Seems like it’s you who’s the monster.

Do you not like being 'exploited' by lords? Have you ever considered simply becoming a lord yourself? Leave me alone!

What, you think the king can just do whatever he wants? There's a process! Don't you know about the magna carta sweaty?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I was too clever by a half with the magna Carta part and feel the need to explain. Magna Carta worship came from George Washington and friends, in the middle ages it just gave more voice to local feudal lords and other aristocratic dudes over the king and either didn't affect the peasantry at all or was a net negative cause you had local business tyrants doing the squeeze instead of a far away guy who had a whole country to deal with.

Really drives home how the founders saw themselves

Oh, entirely. Add that to their weird Rome obsession, which was based on a mideval or as they'd call it 'dark age' description of Rome, cause those were the last guys in history to suck off Rome and they got most stuff wrong. Imagine a dude who acts like a redditor before Wikipedia was a thing. That's the founding fathers, just the most annoying guys.

Edit: yours, ours were corporations and a drunk Scott who married his cousin

Edit of an edit: sweet Jesus, Canada is Shelbyville

Oh, you want an end to feudalism???? What are you trying to do? Come after my private property????

(Private property includes: "toothbrush" (yucky old piece of linen), the land that everyone you know lives on, and your wife.)
