The Diablo 4 developers are working on a hardcore disconnect protection mechanic that will reduce the amount of server-related deaths.

I have a cool idea to prevent hardcore disconnect deaths: Let people play single player games offline. But that would hinder their ability to retroactively ruin their game 5 years from now.

Unfortunately, people keep buying the games so they have no incentive to change it.
