Traded a pipe for a watch in 6th grade, I was allergic to nickel and he broke the pipe the first day he had it. Tragic really.

I feel like it can't be that extreme between men and women but I'm guessing women are more likely to know. Men wear less jewellery and it tends to be not cheap fashion jewellery.
It's not always jewelry. I recently bought a new belt and after half a day my skin was extremely red and irritated.
