Image is from the Wikipedia article on the Sudanese Civil War.

Al-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur (a little east of that deep red zone in the west of the megathread map), is the last major holdout of the Sudanese government in that state, and is currently under siege by the RSF. Losing it would be a significant blow to the SAF, though given how the conflict lines are shaping up, it seems increasingly plausible that there will be a de facto - if not de jure - partition of Sudan, unless the military situation substantially changes. This is because the RSF have been pushed out of central Sudan, while the SAF are being pushed out of Western Sudan - although, the situation is pretty complex and has been known to change rapidly before.

As has been a constant feature of the Sudan Civil War - perhaps the single worst humanitarian crisis on the planet right now when measured by numbers - the civilian situation pales in comparison to the military situation, with hundreds of thousands of children dead from famine, and tens of millions of people experiencing extreme food insecurity.

Al-Fashir has been the destination of many thousands of refugees fleeing genocide, and food and aid supplies into the town are being explicitly blocked by the RSF, resulting in scenes similar to what is happening in Gaza right now. The big difference is that fleeing from major battle zones is at least somewhat of an option, though people are often caught and robbed or enslaved or trafficked while moving to neighbouring towns and cities - and these cities are often experiencing similar conditions to places that refugees are leaving.

Forgot to post this yesterday when I saw no one else had.

Reuters: U.S. secures strategic transit corridor in Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal

Trump will be hosting Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to sign a peace treaty that will establish a long-proposed Zangezur Corridor through Armenia, connecting Azerbaijan to its exclave Nakhchivan (and thus Turkey). The corridor will fall under Armenian law but will be operated by the US through private military contractors and private corporations. It will also seemingly be right along the Iranian border, both effectively cutting off Iran from it's only land route to Russia and giving the US yet another area of operation from which it can attack and infiltrate Iran.

[–] FALGSConaut@hexbear.net 23 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

How long until America fights Iran to the last Armenian?

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 11 points 8 hours ago

Armenia wouldn't fight Azerbaijan to prevent their own ethnic cleansing they're not going to fight Iran

[–] mkultrawide@hexbear.net 9 points 8 hours ago

It's more likely that Azerbaijan and possibly Turkey would be fighting if there is a ground war.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 13 points 10 hours ago
[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 21 points 11 hours ago

And so Armenia firmly falls into the us sphere. Iran was the last country that was sympathetic to the continuation of the armenian people.

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 5 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Does anyone have data on Iran-Armenia-Russia transit tonnage vs the Caspian sea? at a glance it should favor the sea, and is it true that routes thru central asia don't exist? that seems unlikely to me.

🔴 The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine mourns two of its commanders, Mohammed Khalil Washah (Abu Khalil), a member of the General Central Committee, and field commander Mufid Hassan Hussein.

Both were martyred yesterday in a treacherous zionist assassination operation on the road between Syria and Lebanon.

Abu Khalil, born in Gaza in 1954, joined the PFLP in 1973 and was imprisoned by "israel" for five years. Mufid Hassan Hussein, born in Yarmouk camp, Syria in 1973, originally from Safed, Palestine, joined the PFLP in 1990.

Glory to the martyrs.

Bloomberg: US and Russia Plan Truce Deal to Cement Putin’s Gains in Ukraine

Putin is demanding that Ukraine cede its entire eastern Donbas area to Russia as well as Crimea [...]

Russia would halt its offensive in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine along the current battlelines as part of the deal [...]

The agreement aims essentially to freeze the war and pave the way for a ceasefire and technical talks on a definitive peace settlement, the people said.

Seems like Bloomberg has been acting as a mouthpiece for the US State Department to steer the narrative on the peace deal.

I assume they are simply reporting the US's pie-in-the-sky terms. These would be completely unacceptable to Russia, especially if there's no demilitarization and neutrality guarantee.

[–] redchert@lemmygrad.ml 22 points 11 hours ago

Russia would dejure lose territory in this peace deal. This basically the us dream scenario, With the rest Donbass which is already destined to fall in a few months to russia as a boon. Crimea also has been annexed since 2014, this isnt an concession, as well.

The biggest "victory" which ukraine could get is losing the 4 oblasts (+crimea) and not being allowed to join NATO.

[–] Lovely_sombrero@hexbear.net 37 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

These are great terms for the US, but terrible for Ukraine. Remember extremely early on in the war, when Ukraine almost signed a deal with Russia that was insanely better for them (loss of Crimea and no NATO guarantee, but they could join the EU), but Biden urgently sent Boris Johnson to Ukraine to tell them that they are not allowed to make a deal?

[–] jack@hexbear.net 33 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

These are great terms for the US, but terrible for Ukraine.

I think anything but terrible terms for Ukraine have been out the window since 2014

Palestinian factions condemn the “cabinet” plan to occupy Gaza and impose full “security control.”

⚫️ Palestinian Islamic Jihad treated the decision as a complete escalation of genocide, fearing more massacres. They described it as “Nazi-style terror" and held Arab and Western governments, alongside the U.S., responsible for enabling escalation. They stated the occupation torpedoed all exchange talks and “those betting on a settlement got slapped.” They vowed to continue resistance.

⚪️ The Mujahideen Movement stressed continuity, stating that this is the same ethnic cleansing war of the last ~2 years. They blamed full U.S. cover and global paralysis for the new plan. They also accuse the enemy of gambling with its own captives for Netanyahu’s personal agenda. They asserted that resistance weapons the people’s trust and called the Arab-Islamic street to mass mobilization.

⚔️ Popular Resistance Committees casted the plan as proof of the enemy’s political and battlefield failure. They issued a sharp red line: any foreign force stepping into Gaza will be treated as an occupying enemy. They affirmed that “the day after” is decided by Palestinians themselves and insisted that captives can only be freed through negotiations, as the army has already failed. Directed towards the Palestinian Authority, they urged them to end reliance on the U.S./‘international legitimacy,’ end division, and unite. They also called the region to general mobilization and to besiege U.S/zionist/Western embassies.

🟢 Hamas focused on Gaza City. They called the plans to occupy it and evacuate 1 million residents a war crime. They highlighted the linguistic gymnastics between “control” vs. “occupation” as a tacit admission of Geneva convention violations. Hamas stated that this move sacrifices the enemy’s captives and explains the occupation’s sudden walkout from near-final talks. Hamas showed real flexibility, even openness to a comprehensive all-for-all exchange that ends the war and lifts the siege. They blamed the U.S. for cover and arms and urged UN/ICJ/ICC to act. They warned any further invasion would be met with resistance.

Crypto comrades (I know youre out there)

I recently got into tracking charts for commodities in order to get a more complete picture for what is happening in the world of finance capital. Does anyone have a good explanation for this 20% Cryptocurrency expansion over the past month? What nefarious things are happening?

Basically the chart shows that the value of the combined total of all crypto currencies has increased about 30% since a low in mid June 2025 (after the 12 day war) which is 900 billion USD.

Bitcoin is also "worth" almost 120,000 US dollars now 😳

I've also seen people discuss that the US government is propping up the "tether" "stablecoin" because it pumps up the Cryptocurrency market. I dont even know where to look to find good analysis of it besides a Ben Norton video. Is there any good articles I can read more on this?

I'm trying to get a better understanding of this global AI-compute Genocide bubble that is sustaining the empire in the midst of what is clearly an enormous crisis of imperialism.

Crypto, like gold, is just a store of value. It’s the latest flashy version of gold, and a speculative asset that has little to no bearing to how the modern monetary system is run.

People run to crypto (and gold) because of the economic uncertainty at the moment, especially with Trump’s erratic behavior, so they try to park their money in some form of assets.

When the US runs into a recession, both gold and crypto will lose value, for the simple reason that people will convert their assets back into cash to sustain their livelihood. You’re not going to make money investing in crypto unless you can earn a profit with the capital gains tax paid and assuming the asset, which is highly speculative, will not lose value because the US will never enter a recession, which is impossible considering the instability of a capitalist economy.

[–] thethirdgracchi@hexbear.net 17 points 12 hours ago

Just something to note, USD has noticeably depreciated this year (around 10%) versus a global basket of currencies, so if you conceptualise bitcoin as a currency it's more a story of the dollar getting cheaper than bitcoin and other crypto growing in value. There's obviously a lot of the latter as well, so I don't want to discount that, but denominating this in USD might be a bit overstating this at the moment. That said, a lot of crypto expansion comes from a) evading US sanction and money laundering, b) bubble mentality now that cryptocurrencies can be held in 401ks and other retirement account vehicles (just past I think around a week ago in the United States), and c) searching for non-dollar denominated assets to park money into, given global trust of the United States' financial system is at a recent low. You can see the explosion of gold prices also match this trend.

[–] AtmosphericRiversCuomo@hexbear.net 16 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

The US stands to benefit from pumping it because stablecoins provide an easy on ramp for new USD users globally. Tokens like USDC hold reserves in treasures, funding domestic spending etc.

I think the real reason is that there's just nowhere else for money to go. The US isn't going to reindustrialize for many reasons. It's like squeezing a financial balloon in the center. A bulge is going to pop up somewhere, and it's sure as hell not infrastructure or public spending, it's fictitious capital.

Any competent government would try to make this idle speculative "investment" less profitable than making real goods and services, but instead they're personally benefitting. Meanwhile new ETFs are being approved and Trump is opening trillions in 401ks to exposure here.

Plus you have companies like Microstrategy that won big by just buying up as much bitcoin as possible, providing sort of a floor of demand for this shit, which in turn creates a self fulfilling prophecy. Even companies like gamestop are getting into it, such that BTC becomes sort of a blackhole of financial investment.

Incidentally, Marxists who are "always right" should be able to see this idiotic trend coming years ago and make an absolute killing, but we have blinders on wrt technology. And besides, now isn't the time to get in, so it's irresponsible to even suggest it.

USDt / Tether is a pillar of the new BRICS financial system Banning it only makes it stronger | Inside China Business

[–] xiaohongshu@hexbear.net 18 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago) (2 children)

This channel, which has been posted a few times on this site, has multiple videos talking about how “China is using dollars to create its own alternative financial system” which shows the person doesn’t understand how the international financial system actually works.

Next, the channel promotes gold and crypto heavily. In other words, Austrian school libertarian crap. I’m surprised there are Marxists who bought into their defective theories.

Finally, the USDT/Tether are stablecoins that are nothing more than money that don’t pay interests. What happens is the person who took your money use them to purchase treasuries to earn interests, while you’re left holding the “digital” version of the money that doesn’t yield any long term interest.

Non-stablecoin cryptos, like gold, are just speculative assets that have no bearing on how the modern monetary system works. The world has moved long past that. They are simply stores of value, just like gold, and will come down when the US economy enters a recession. It will not bring about an alternative system to the dollar, nor can BRICS seek independence from the dollar hegemony through that.

What has been interesting though are CBDCs and there are indeed many good uses when carefully thought through.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 9 points 12 hours ago (4 children)

I've never seen the channel promote gold or crypto? are you thinking of the Singapore guy

[–] BynarsAreOk@hexbear.net 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

China has been the biggest gold buyer in the past few years and anything China does is obviously good based and correct even though most of this is reportedly(last time I checked, could be wrong) mostly just wealthy middle class(consequence of housing crash) fad not anything significant.

Fwiw, there are plenty of exchanges that pay interest on stablecoins held, both USDC and USDT.

[–] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 6 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

it's not the risk-free (involuntary default terms) interest like treasuries though. the higher the interest rate the more profit these stablecoin issuers make. i have mixed feelings, since these don't have any guaranteed convertibility to dollars for the holders no matter what they claim, even the more 'trusted' USDC. but on the other hand, it's a useful tool for getting Dollars around eg. to Gaza. but of course, it cannot work well at scale. since, U.S. Gov can always freeze the treasuries/reserves held by these issuers. If I were a Central Bank, I would trust China issued USD assets than USDT/USDC, simply because US can't freeze Chinese reserves without huge consequences.

also very much vulnerable to interest rate risk too, since they hold long term treasuries. even if they claim they only hold treasuries, what duration? if its short duration, sure, these can be liquidated at face value, but not long term treasuries.

anyone remember when USDC depegged when SVB went broke? Only after Treasury, Fed and FDIC backstopped all deposits did it recover. So, these stablecoins very much depend upon the USD Financial structure.

Yeah, agree with everything you said here.

Of course it's not risk free, namely because you have to hold funds on a crypto exchange lol. It's not like you get paid out just for holding funds in a private USDT wallet, although such a thing might exist in the defi space, I don't care enough to check. It potentially makes sense if you can't access US capital markets any other way though.

Also afaik, there's no law requiring stablecoin issuers to hold any kind of treasury. It wouldn't surprise me to see something like that pass eventually, but for all we know they're buying dogecoin or some other harebrained "asset" behind the scenes.

Ecuador: CONAIE Accuses Noboa of Undermining Constitutional Court’s Independence - Telesur English

Article

The Court’s function is to exercise constitutional oversight, not to please whoever is in power, the Indigenous movement said. On Wednesday, the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE) accused President Daniel Noboa of attempting to delegitimize and weaken the independence of the Constitutional Court (CC), after the country’s highest tribunal temporarily suspended several articles from various laws promoted by the right-wing politician.

“We are alarmed by the reaction of Government Minister Zaida Rovira and National Assembly President Niels Olsen, who, surrounded by police officers—instead of respecting the Court’s decision—accuse it of favoring organized crime,” CONAIE said in a statement.

“This perverse narrative seeks to delegitimize the Court, weaken its independence, and justify a political offensive against constitutional justice. The Court’s primary function is to exercise constitutional oversight, not to please whoever is in power,” it added. CONAIE rejected what it called an attempt to undermine democratic institutions and emphasized that “neither the Constitutional Court nor critical dissenting voices are serving any criminal group.”

On Monday, the Constitutional Court of Ecuador decided to temporarily suspend several articles from laws presented by Noboa under the designation of “urgent,” which required the Assembly to approve each law within 30 days.

Among the suspended provisions are those in the Intelligence Law that would allow undercover agents to assume false identities, permit the national intelligence system to request information on any citizen from telecom companies, and authorize the use of funds without complying with public procurement laws.

Regarding the National Solidarity Law—initially aimed at increasing resources for security forces combating organized crime—the Court suspended an article granting Noboa the prerogative of “preemptive pardons” for police and military personnel prosecuted for crimes committed under the “internal armed conflict” declared by the president against criminal gangs earlier in 2024.

Constitutional judges also suspended provisions related to the creation of a special legal regime under the “internal armed conflict” designation, which outlined a series of military objectives for law enforcement agencies. These measures were widely criticized by social organizations, human rights advocates, and labor unions, who filed dozens of constitutional challenges, arguing that the laws violated various rights.

However, following the Court’s announcement, government officials Rovira and Olsen denounced the decision in a public statement—delivered while flanked by police and military officers—and accused the judges of siding with the “enemies of the people.”

CONAIE welcomed the Court’s decision, asserting that the laws “contain openly unconstitutional provisions that threaten fundamental rights.”

“With laws fast-tracked under the guise of ‘economic urgency,’ the government has sought to concentrate state control, expanding its ability to impose decisions without democratic debate,” the organization said.

CONAIE urged the Constitutional Court to maintain its independence and uphold the Constitution in the face of other proposals by Noboa, such as the Protected Areas Law and the Law for the Control of Irregular Capital Flows, which, it warned, threaten collective rights, ancestral territories, and the rights of nature.

“Now more than ever, it is essential to defend the independence of the Constitutional Court as a guarantor of rights, balance among branches of political power, and true democracy,” concluded CONAIE, which led mass protests in 2019 and 2022 against former presidents Lenin Moreno and Guillermo Lasso, respectively.

🇵🇸 Palestinian Resistance Factions: — In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Regarding the leaked information circulating about the enemy government's intention to decide on the full occupation of the Gaza Strip, and the statements of the criminal Netanyahu regarding imposing military control over the Strip, we, the resistance factions, affirm the following:

First: These statements and leaks reveal the enemy's political and field impotence, after two years of dismal failure in achieving its goals, despite committing massacres and crimes and relying on unlimited support from global colonial powers.

Second: The threat of a full military occupation of Gaza is a declaration of genocidal intentions and a desperate attempt to subjugate our people and their resistance. These intentions will not pass without a heavy price, and the field will be the decider, as it always has been.

Third: Gaza is not a vacant geographical area looking for someone to fill it; rather, it is a land saturated with the blood of martyrs and the strength of mujahideen. Any attempt at direct occupation will be a new quagmire that burns whoever penetrates it, and the resistance will enter a phase of more severe and painful confrontation for this enemy.

Fourth: Netanyahu is trying to cover up his political and military defeat by marketing illusions of control. We tell him clearly: Gaza will not be managed from Tel Aviv, nor from any foreign capital, but by the will of its resisting people.

Fifth: The Palestinian resistance, with all its factions, is united in the field of confrontation, and any occupation decision will send it back from where it came, defeated and broken, as always. The enemy is deluded if it thinks it will free its prisoners from the grip of the resistance by military force. We affirm that its prisoners will only be released through negotiations and at heavy prices.

"And those who have wronged are going to know to what kind of return they will be returned."

Palestinian Resistance Factions. Thursday, 13 Safar 1447 AH, corresponding to August 07, 2025 AD.
