I live in a house that was built in the 1800s. It's a gorgeous home with a really lovely character. It originally belonged to my grandparents, and when they died, it was left to me.

There have been some odd and unexplainable experiences in my home. Some I have witnessed, others I have been told about.

I am a believer, but I need to have exhausted all other possibilities before I accept that something paranormal may have just happened.

For context, my son (14 months) is in the very early stages of speech, but he is consistent in responding accurately with the words he does know.

As of writing this post, the words (or his version of words) my son knows are: Mama, Oma (German for grandmother), Dog, Ro (our dog is called Rocco), Yes, No, Ok, Hi, Bye, Wawa (water), Nana (banana)

He loves to wave and blow kisses, but will only do this towards people (and mannequins, which is adorable).

Now, on to why I am writing this...

My son has started interacting with someone that I can't see. He becomes distracted from what he is doing, turns to focus on a specific area, waves, and says Hi.

He does this in all areas of the house, but the most common area is in the bedroom and upstairs hallway.

Around 3 weeks ago, we were in the living room. He pointed to a spot just in front of the door and said something that sounded like Abigail. I asked him to repeat what he'd said, but all I got was him laughing, pointing at the door, and saying Hi.

That was the first interaction, and it's been happening a few times a week since then.

The most recent was on Tuesday evening. I like to take him upstairs about 30 minutes before his bedtime so he can have a wander around the room, play with some toys, and watch an episode of Hey Duggee.

We were mid episode when he whipped his head around to the door, squealed, and ran over to it. He was waving like crazy and shouting Hi over and over to nothing.

I asked what he was doing, he pointed to something I couldn't see and laughed. I asked if he was having a chit-chat, he said yes. I asked who he was talking to, he said Abigail. Clear as day, Abigail.

That same night, I was trying to get him to sleep. I have him in my bed for a cuddle until he falls asleep, then move him to his cot. This night, he was very energetic, jumping on the bed and refusing to lie down. Then he looked over my shoulder to something behind me, stopped jumping and just stared at this spot for about 10 seconds. Then he, said "OK", immediately lay down and settled.

Part of me wants to attribute his behaviour to a young child exploring his imagination, but the consistency and how he interacts with "Abigail" seems to be a bit more than just make-believe. Plus, he just doesn't say any words with more than 2 syllables right now, so it's confused me as to why the next step in his speech is to start with that.

The other thing that makes me wonder if "Abigail" could be real is stories I have heard from my grandparents and a couple of friends.

My grandfather saw a little girl with blonde hair, in a blue dress, at the end of his bed 3 or 4 times. He said she looked about 5 years old. He described the experience as he would wake up and notice a child standing in his room, he'd take a moment to focus and once he could properly look at her, she would giggle and run out of the room.

My grandmother thought she caught a glimpse of her in the upstairs hallway once but said she ran down the stairs before she could really see her.

Honestly, I put those two things down to my grandfather had just woken up, so he was probably seeing things in his sleepy state. My grandmother had been told the stories by my grandfather, so she was already primed to see what she could describe as the little girl.

A friend of mine once told me that he felt weird being in the house because he kept seeing a child sized shadow running past the living room.

That one was a bit harder to explain, considering he didn't know the stories of what my grandparents had seen, and I never saw the shadow.

The other thing is, my son doesn't know any children called Abigail. My teenage niece is called Abi, but she is never referred to by her full name. Plus she lives in a different country and he has met her once.

I even went as far as to check with his childminder to see if any of the other kids she has might have that name. Nope.

So, reddit. What are the chances my son has made friends with a ghost?
