Yea I tried that, still depressed, and now I also have a cat that's depressed because I struggle to take care of her πŸ™ƒ

People who own cats know that they are very sensitive to your emotional state and will absolutely come comfort you when you're distressed or very down. I've had three cats on me at once sometimes, which is not something they "regularly" do.

Little furry angels, every last one of them. I owe them so much.

My cat absolutely doesn't care about my emotional states but I love him no matter what.

I know! We really don't deserve cats

considering how cats just keep showing up in people's houses and acting like they've been living there all along, it seems we do in fact deserve cats

I mean, if you have mental illness you might absolutely need therapy πŸ˜…

Having living things to take care of and cuddle with can absolutely be a helpful part of treatment and benefit to one's mental health though! :)

Therapy definitely has its place. But that place should also include a purring cat, as should every home.

Ideally both

Why not both?

We had two dogs, a cat, and a bird, so the house was always full of animal silliness. My wife left me a couple months ago and took the dogs with her. I've become so thankful for the cat. She just wants to be where I am, constantly: on my lap if I'm sitting, or on my chest if I'm laying down. It's made a very hard time just a little less hard.

I'm in therapy because I'm allergic to cats. Also the horrible, horrible depression.

That sucks mate. I know we're all facing existential threats on a regular basis so depression and anxiety are high among the population.

But that doesn't mean you don't matter. You matter.

Glad you're getting the help you need!

Hearts in a singular cat? More likely than you think. Your cat may be an errant Time Lord.

Save me a fortune

Totally not in my experience πŸ˜…

But yeah i keep on moving because whenever i reached home i would lie down on the floor and play with my cats for half an hour before proceed to bath and do other stuff. Without them i think i wouldn't be here.

Is that not therapy?

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Oh, but a therapist can write an emotional support animal letter so you don’t have to pay kitty rent!

You do, however, pay more for the therapist than kitty rent.

If only my airways wouldn't clamp up tight and my skin wouldn't start flaking, itching and basically falling apart after a session like that. ☹️

My cat does that to wake me up because she's hungry.
