It's even worse than that. The original days of cable were ad free! That was the whole point! You got away from ads on broadcast tv by signing up for cable. That didn't last long, of course, so it's not surprising to see history repeat itself.

Cable pfft that's when we started paying to watch commercials. 57 channels and nuthin on, except commercials.
