In the World University Rankings 2025 by the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), China leads with 346 universities, surpassing the U.S. for the first time.

The number of Chinese universities accounts for 17% of the total 2,000, reflecting an increase of 22 institutions compared to last year. Meanwhile, the number of U.S. universities dropped by 10, leaving 319 institutions in the ranking, according to data released by CWUR on June 2.

This means nothing. The university rankigs are bullshit and always have been. I did go to an "ivy league" university and I fucking regretted it.

even if less legitimate from china. it really depends if the university has resources to advance your career, like "extra-carricular volunteering, thats the most important part, most universities dont have it or they make it very difficult to find it. my state uni was not a prestigious uni, and most people that go there regretted it(jjust looka t the yelp). and then western countries might not recognize degrees from china, or many courses.

the prestige is probably useful for a select number of majors, like political, lawyer, maybe some MD schools.

i also regretted going to my state uni, i distinctly remember just before i transferred there a female student that was visited our cc, already wanted to transfer to another university, this was 13 years, it was already kinda bad then too.
