Official Title of this Community: Ethnic Minorities and People of Color

Why is the title different?

We like to have fun here.

What is this place? A safe space for underrepresented peoples and peoples of color to talk, chill, and vibe.

What are the basic rules of the community?

  1. Follow Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines. Non negotiable. This is the bedrock and mods will make decisions with this always in mind.

  2. This community is for ethnic minorities and people of color. This is a safe space where such people can freely discuss their struggles, insight, and thoughts without fear. If you are not, we respectfully ask you do not post or comment here. A future community will be established to allow for racial discussions with a mixed userbase. However, remember, comments here must still respect Lemmy TOS and Community Guidelines.

  3. Irony Racism is still racism. Racism is bad m'kay? We will treat irony racism and bad faith racist satire as racism. Will wield the ban hammer accordingly.

  4. No sectarianism: This is an identity channel not a channel for you all to complain about why XYZ isn't the "one true leftism". Take that to another place.

  5. Stupidpol is not allowed. Stupidpol is class reductionist. We are an identity community. Thinking like stupidpol ignores the struggles of the oppressed, their voices, and their need for unique support. Nothing says oppression more than someone saying that the identity you have is "not real" and that if you only thought like them you'd see what your "real" identity is. Mods reserve the right to ban users and content who promote stupidpol, stupidpol memes, and other class reductionist thinking.

Never liked that amy schumer character but her weaponising Jewish allyship with poc to gain support for this genocide will always piss me off

White people ran out of ideas with South Africa, with other colonies they're like "oh the technology, the education" there they're like "the white farmers" what do you mean white farmers? was they lack of melanin making the plants grow faster?

Happy Pride Month to all the LGBT++ homies.

I’m starting my job search in earnest today. Need to find a real grown-ass man job in computers and soon. I know we justly clown on techbros but my only job experience is in computers and IT. I do dread finding another MEGACORP gig, as they are all weirdly racist and sexist in lots of ways it’s hard to put into words. Yeah there is a lot of explicit and overt stuff but there so much implied and covert stuff. Work is such a racket.

Gotta be my favorite pride flag 🫡

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago (3 children)

I woke up today forgetting that it's pride month, and it feels sad because I know the reason why: I've distanced myself from LGBTQ+ spaces so much that it just didn't occur to me like it has for the past few years. Why? Because most of the LGBTQ+ spaces I've interacted with are overwhelmingly white, and the experiences with that, as you would expect, are

[–] homhom9000@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago

I don't know how to explain it better than, LGBTQ+ spaces feels like the Target Queer section. Almost like a hate crime with nothing behind it beyond visibility and rainbows

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 12 points 6 days ago

The whiteness of these spaces is part of why it took me so long to figure it out. I felt out of place and figured I mist be cishet rather than because the whiteness was repellant

I never bothered with grindr both because of my anxiety around sex and also because I keep hearing how racist it is. I got one queer friend online in my friend group when everyone else is pretty damn white. This shit gets kind of lonely fr

Why do racist White Americans adopt nonwhite kids as much as they do? I see this a lot from Guatemalan adoptees. They’re always very visibly mestizo or indigenous kids with Anglo names like Jason Smith who were raised by a racist straight or lesbian couple.

They come down here and talk about how thankful they were to be away from this hellhole (their own words) and will brag about their white spouses who tend to be just as racist as their parents. Their politics range from being far-right to neoliberal with the only leftists I’ve met being those with an estranged relationship with their parents.

the same reason enslavers wanted non-white bodies. as livestock or as pets.

they would probably treat their own bio children as pets too but squeezing out tiny humans doesn't stroke their ego like the social adulation of adopting or fostering.

guessing the same reason they fetishise poc, some do because they think it makes them progressive, some do it for humiliation.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago

i know the racist libs do it to show how progressive they are to other white libs

My cousin decided to marry a redneck and now she doesn't want to spend time at any of the family reunions because they're racist. Its not even like her husband isn't, he's pretty openly racist, but IDK. I would say I feel bad for her, but it seems like that's her type anyway soshrug-outta-hecks

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

My half-sister married a crypto fascist and I'm banned from her house, so that's neat.

[–] Rojo27@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago (1 children)

waow-based

She always trying to invite my mom and me over to where they live. I could never. No one is going to be racist to my face and think I'm not going to say shit.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 10 points 6 days ago

Saying shit is why I'm banned lmao

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 9 points 6 days ago

Every nonwhite family has at least one of these In their family

Wonder if anyone else has a familiar nickname that's way off from their legal name. I quite like mine and have been having my close friends use it. It's probably the closest to a true name I got since internally I use it when talking to myselfs. It tends to be odd to my white friends but idk sometimes it hard to explain to them

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Same. Except, my nickname is based off my legal name but people who don't speak the language wouldn't know this. I've been told they thought I just decided to pick a totally different name because it sounded cooler. Haha

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Fr my white friends here my legal name and can't connect the dots, my mom has a cooler one goes by Maria but for some reason her family call her kooka I think that's how you spell it

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Kuka? Is she Puerto Rican? I knew an older Puerto Rican lady named Kuka.

Please feel free not to answer to avoid doxxing though.

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

cuca is also a nickname in mexico

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

[–] thelastaxolotl@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

[–] Wmill@hexbear.net 4 points 6 days ago
