Very popular here in southern Germany. Most people I know go skiing at least once a year. The local skiing areas don't get a lot of snow anymore, so most people go to Austria or Switzerland. Personally I never went skiing though.

Most would refer to scandinavia as the birthplace of skiing. So here in norway almost everyone knows how to ski.
Both cross-country and downhill is very popular. (I think those are the english terms?)
Super popular, whenever there's snow on even one of our mountains, literally the entire country will be on it. All 18 million of us Dutch folk.
You got me at first.
On a more serious note, Dutch people I know seem to enjoy skiing in other countries, usually Austria. Is that this a trend around you as well?
Yes, though mostly among people who can afford it - it's not cheap to do so. But those who can, seem to do it every year :)
In Germany, Skiing is quite popular as an incredibly effective excuse for partying hard.
Many of those who can afford it, do it every year or couple of years. There is less and less snow every year though so access is ever waning, simultaneously making it more expensive, reducing the days of the year with snow temperatures, reducing the snow quality due to artificial snow and making it harder for bussinesses to survive. Many others have never skied and/or have seen snow fall on their house a few or no times in their life. Spain.
