Say goodbye to the space program. Evangelicals are getting rid of it. Space exploration has always been about finding life. But if God created life, then we are uniquely God's children. Evangelicals have always hated space science for denigrating their beliefs. And now they have the power to take revenge.

No the current crop of insatiable capitalists in political power in the US are responsible. Translation, pure corruption, greed, and another effort to consolidate wealth, specifically fucking with the aerospace industry. Who's involved? I wonder wonder.
It's a related mix. Turning major space programs into pork barrels has hurt efficiency, exploration, inspiration, etc, in favor of cronyism. Public ignorance is also a huge part of it. There's a staggering education epidemic and amount of people who don't believe in the moon landings or rovers on Mars and who don't know or care about the importance of space-based nav, comms, weather, etc, or microgravity research.
This is what we get for sending a probe to Europa, we were warned but didn't listen
Good thing we don't have too many people in space, they would probably leave them up there.
