Rules

  1. Any drama must be posted as an observer, you cannot post drama that you are involved with.
  2. When posting screenshots of drama, you must obscure the identity of all the participants.
  3. The poster must have a credible post and comment history before submitting a piece of history. This is to avoid sock-puppetry and witch hunts.

The usual instance-wide rules also apply.

Chronicle the life and tale of the fediverse (+ matrix)

Largely a sublemmy about capturing drama, from fediverse spanning drama to just lemmy drama.

Includes lore like how a instance got it's name, how an instance got defederated, how an admin got doxxed, fedihistory etc

(New) This sub's intentions is to an archive/newspaper, as in preferably don't get into fights with each other or the ppl featured in the drama

Since a lot of people are asking what happened, here's some context.

Recently Nutomic requested more donations to Lemmy. This was cross-posted everywhere (like here, here, here, here, here). And, inevitably, people started calling out things like:

  • The devs' defence of authoritarian regimes;
  • tankie here, tankie there;
  • lemmy .ml extremely shitty moderation practices;
  • Nutomic's transphobic message; etc.

as reasons to not donate to the development.

That should be enough to get the meme OP shared.

My take on this matter.If I don't do this, odds are some assumptive trash will assume = lie = bullshit words into my mouth.

The criticism against the devs is mostly valid, but not the full picture - even if they say all this shit, they're still creating a platform that enables people to fight against it, and this should be taken into account.

So it's all about balancing those two things, you know? On moral and practical matters. For me at least the balance is overall positive; I'd be donating to the platform if I wasn't broke. Plus, continued Lemmy development benefits us, and if they need to take a job the development slows down.

But, still... I get people who won't support them, I don't think that they're completely wrong, it's just that they weight things different than I do. Either way, people should not focus on picking sides, but on being fair.

I'd also like to encourage people who don't want to contribute with Lemmy to do it for either PieFed or Sublinks. Both are independent from Lemmy, compete with it, but are still part of the Fediverse.

These guys are never into living in Russia or China and having them pay their living expenses while they're working on all their magic stuff. Nothing like that. They always like to live in the nice stable places, and have them pay for it.

But, instead of in return trying to help fix the incredible number of very urgent problems in the stable places, they... well, you know.

What happened?

Images is not loading for me. Anyone else have this issue?

[–] PhilipTheBucket@ponder.cat 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I think that just happens sometimes. I've had people tell me images from my instance weren't loading, and nothing really ever "went wrong." I've seen it happen for me, too. My guess is that every so often an image just doesn't load. Why, I don't know, but presumably it is for similar reasons as to why I am every so often just randomly logged out until I reload the page, or why everything flashes Chinese for a second before going back over to English again.

or why everything flashes Chinese for a second before going back over to English again

Ah good, I was beginning to think it was just me, or just the instance I'm on.

One thing to note is that I know why the linked site doesn't load (most .ru sites are blocked in Ukraine as they spread russian genocidal propaganda and misinformation), I am just surprised the cached Lemmy copy of the image doesn't load.

Yeah, like I say, I think Lemmy just be like that.
