Breadtube if it didn't suck.
Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.
Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.
There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.
A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.
didnt they huge locust swarms in the horn of africa in 2020
This video is specifically about the North American Locust, which is extinct since the early 20th century
Yes, also in India and parts of south America. It wasn't as bad as a lot of "plagues" in the past. You used to have swarms so large it would block out the sun for literal days as it passed over an area.
can I get the one sentence summary it would take to answer the question posed by this 33 minute video
The video is very interesting and has way more information than just answering the title question. That said, we don't actually know for sure but probably something to do with agriculture interrupting the locust's reproduction cycle.
Yeah sorry I didn't mean to dunk on the video that hard. I think my comment was a little overly harsh sounding, especially since I actually love really long videos, I guess this one just didn't speak to me.
But thank you for summarizing it for me anyway!
No worries, it sucks that all YouTubers have to play the title clickbait game to make a living. I'm just personally a big fan of this specific creator so I've seen all his videos. He's got a real late 90's public access television vibe that I love.
He also lived in China for awhile so while he does sometimes have lib takes, it's usually pretty good.
This answer makes a ton of sense to me, given how we've completely agriformed a huge unbroken swath of the North American continent.
Can all grasshopper species become locusts or is just certain grasshopper subgroups?
There are thousands of species of grasshopper but I think only a few dozen are known to have locust phases.
Too expensive. Only Highcost Plagues now.
Clearly you don't live near a cicada brood
Pulse lasers and targeting computers meant they the locusts 8/12 movement profile was no longer fast enough to protect it...
is it pesticides?
No, locust plagues in American stopped before the widespread use of pesticides.
