One time I was on a call and started panicking because I couldn't find my phone. I expressed this panic to the other end of the line, increasingly anxious, until he went "dreamer, it's in your hand"

"Oh."

I did a similar thing. I was talking to my friend through my headphones as I was getting ready to leave the house and put my phone in my hoodie pocket. Then I put my rain coat over my hoodie and left. 5 minutes later I freaked out when I couldn't find my phone in my rain coat pocket. My friend reassured me that I must have it because I was still talking to her but I didn't remember what I'd done until I took my rain coat off. Was a weird experience and one that made me realise how dependent I was on my phone.

Few things scare you like thinking you’ve lost one of the most expensive and fragile things you use nearly 24/7. And even fewer can make you feel like a complete idiot to realise you’re already holding it. Such a crazy crosswire of feelings.

I dunno, but I heard everybody clap.

I always hear the mean voice in my head clap sarcastically when I find the phone on my hand, so that must have been it.

Oh is that what that noise was? I thought it was from when I nearly strangled myself with my headphone cable in standing, since I’ve apparently forgot how reality works today.

I’ve no idea what’s gone wrong, but someone else suggested weed. I wasn’t on it, but perhaps I should be.

it can definetly turn exasperation into amusement.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago

Shit, sign me up. I could definitely use some amusement.

My daughter was in a state searching all over before she left the house, when I asked what she was looking for, she said "my phone". My other daughter piped up " you have it to your ear, you are talking on it"

On lemmy but posting on bluesky and not mastadon. Curious

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I barely have the energy for social media in the first place. Mastadon feels like work.

[–] pineapplelover@lemm.ee -2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's probably the same amount of work you put in for bluesky. Make an account and start posting.

I've definitely put in way more (very worthwhile) effort into Fediverse apps than I ever would have for regular centralized social media. No algorithm is truly a blessing, but feels a dash like a curse because even though I religiously use and follow tags to find content, I still am not getting the stuff I truly want to see. I love fanart, fanfic, fan content in general of anime and games, but most of interests have dead or 1 person talking tags. Finding accounts who aren't on your instance is a pain in the in the ass, since there accounts might be secretly hidden from me due to the servers not interacting yet. So even when I do like an artist's pic, the rest still don't show up because the server is still grabbing info...

Pixelfed is especially bad for this, discovery is hard with other instances, and god forbid you follow someone from mastodon. Some mastodon accounts seem to appear on the app, but some others don't even show up in my follow list. I do use Pixelix as a client which is a tad better, and yet some mastodon accounts still glitch it.

But those problems literally don't exist on places like Tumblr, which is what I use in replacement of Instagram due to the fact that finding artists and fanart is far more easier, and I can't live without that content. I've made an account on a misskey instance (I know enough Japanese to not be miserable on there) but the UX also scares me and I have no idea how to actually find the art I want because they're on other instances and some of the biggest servers have signups blocked to non-JP accounts (even with VPN).

Places like Lemmy have it easy, following communities and users is no sweat, since they're all little micro hubs like Reddit anyway. But literally ever other service is WAY more effort than reg social media.

So once we get more people, and make it easier to follow other instances, I'll be living the dream~

It’s not. I have a Mastadon account (made it nearly a year before BlueSky). It was work. I have to curate it and the interface is awful. BlueSky was easy.

To be clear, I barely use BlueSky, either. I’m almost exclusively on Lemmy. But these platforms need to get their UX ducks in order, and I say that as someone who has adapted to tech and UX since the late 80s.

Would you mind bridging your Bluesky account with Mastodon through https://fed.brid.gy/ ?

I'd follow you through Mastodon.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Apparently I need to make a new account; it’s been a loooooong time *warning, Reddit link).

I’ll make a new mastadon account and link it here.

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

FYI bridging with Mastodon doesn't require a Mastodon account on your end, it will make your account accessible to be followed by Mastodon users, and even recieve replies from Mastodon users if they also bridged their accounts.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

I’m confused, then. Do I bridge it from Bluesky?

I clicked your like but it didn’t make sense from my end.

Oh, that’s all? Followed.

e: thank you.

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

And followed from Mastodon :)

[–] geoma@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago

Same for me. If you are interested in ease of use, instagram and x do the job AFAIK. But if you are interested in a resilient decentralized platform (and the future of humanity in a non dystopian world), bluesky is not one (although it pretends to be). So for me its mastodon and pixelfed all the way.

Maybe not smoking so much weed might help with this.

I quit smoking weed after I had been looking for my phone under the bed for half an hour - using the flashlight of my phone.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago

No weed. Just pure unfiltered ignorance.

One time when my kids were little I was at Walmart and I suddenly realized I didn't know where my son was and he was just little. So I was like, oh my god, where's Buddy? Where's Buddy? Where's Buddy? And he busted up laughing because I was fucking holding him.

Insomnia does weird things to you.

It's cool, I've lost my phone on the toilet before too haha
