Chief of General Staff Gerasimov through TASS has confirmed the presence of DPRK fighters in some capacity:

https://archive.ph/znkqi

Gerasimov also commended the role of North Korean fighters in the liberation of the Kursk Region.

"I want specially to note the participation of servicemen of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in liberating border areas of the Kursk Region who in accordance with the Treaty on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between our countries rendered considerable assistance in crushing the Ukrainian army’s combat group that had launched an incursion," Gerasimov said.

As Russia’s military chief pointed out, "soldiers and officers of the Korean People’s Army were accomplishing combat objectives shoulder to shoulder with Russian servicemen and in the process of repelling the Ukrainian incursion showed high professionalism and displayed endurance, courage and heroism in combat."

Vijay Prashad

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the barbaric killing of 28 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir by terrorists. The CPI(M) extends deepest condolences to the families of the innocent people who lost their lives in the attack. Several people have suffered serious injuries in the attack. The CPI(M) extends wishes for their speedy recovery. The perpetrators of the horrific crime must be apprehended and punished. The police and security forces are under the Central Government. The Central Government must leave no stone unturned in bringing the forces responsible for the dastardly attack to justice. The perpetrators of the crime are the enemies of the nation and more so of the people of Kashmir. It is incumbent on the Central Government to probe all angles of the attack including the lack of security in crowded tourist places. The CPI(M) stands united with the people of India in this hour of tragedy against the extremist fundamentalist forces.

Kinda weird to call the central goverment Hindutva fascism for years and then fully support them in increasing the militarization of Kashmir, also Prashad posted this 5 years ago

One year ago, Narendra Modi arrested Kashmir.

In my Opinion the CPI (M) is not looking good

at least the indian communists still have the naxalites

CPI(ML)'s statement is better.

The CPI(ML) Liberation strongly condemns the terrorist attack on April 22 in Baisaran, Pahalgam, where unarmed tourists were targeted, resulting in several deaths and injuries. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims and stand in solidarity with their families.

The Modi government's claim of normalisation of the situation in J & K and chest-thumping on national security stands exposed, as such attacks continue unabated in the region. There has been a disturbing rise in attacks on civilians—residents, migrant workers, and now tourists.

The BJP’s repeated proclamations of “complete normalcy” in Jammu & Kashmir ring hollow in the face of such continuing violence. While the ruling party has declared on every platform that all issues in the region have been resolved, the reality tells a different story. Jammu & Kashmir remains heavily militarized, and terror attacks persist under the watch of this regime. The Modi government’s strategy—suppressing democratic voices while indulging in aggressive posturing—has failed to deliver either peace or security.

We must reject any attempt to use this tragic incident as a pretext to stoke jingoistic and communal narratives. At this critical moment, it is essential for people across the country to stand united and push back the divisive forces seeking to exploit such tragedies for political gain.

https://www.cpiml.net/Press-Statements/2025/04/cpiml-statement-on-the-pahalgam-terrorist-attack

That said, CPI(M) has always despised Islamist fundamentalists, many of the CPI(M) party members in Kerala were killed by Islamists (SDPI and PFI).

The region is disputed territory between India and Pakistan and even if Kashmir was given back its autonomy (which was de facto dead when BJP took over), there will still be attacks against civilians even if Communists took over the Indian Government, material conditions matter, true, but it takes time to change. It is a difficult situation. Pakistan wants a Kashmir where Hindus and minorities are second class people while India wants one where Hindus rule.

President Trump, after talking to Zelensky for 15 minutes at the Vatican:

'There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days! It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along. Maybe he has to be dealt with differently, through 'Banking' or 'Secondary Sanctions?'.

Don't worry, he'll talk to someone else in the next day and reverse position yet again.

Honestly impressive how stupid he is sometimes. If I were a hog I'd get exhausted having to change all of my beliefs every time Trump talked to someone different.

I tried to cut down my internet intake but kept my Hexbear slop. I found myself regularly uninformed about what was happening here in the US and abroad. I knew a lot about Beanis. But not much more than that. Is it because I wasn’t reading this mega? Or do I need to go back to obsessively reading news?

BreakThrough News interviewing someone from Electronic Intefada and giving pretty positive coverage of Ansar Allah and their resistance to U.S. imperial violence. Probably not much (or anything) new to folks here about the actual facts of the war, but still a pretty good summary. And maybe a good resource to point your leftist and left-curious friends, family, and associates to about it, if their primary exposure is mainstream "news".

Venezuela and China Strengthen Strategic Alliance in High-Level Meeting: Over 600 Bilateral Agreements in Energy and Technology - Telesur English

Article

Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and Chinese counterpart Han Zheng bolster bilateral cooperation in energy, technology, and social development under the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for All Weather” framework.

On this April 24 in Beijing, , Venezuelan Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng strengthened bilateral ties on Thursday in Beijing during a meeting that reviewed over 600 cooperation agreements in strategic sectors, solidifying an alliance both governments describe as a “bulwark against global hegemony.”

The talks at the Great Hall of the People are part of Rodríguez’s working agenda in China, aimed at advancing joint projects under principles of sovereignty and mutual benefit. The visit follows the signing of 31 agreements during President Nicolás Maduro’s historic 2023 visit to Beijing and a 2024 energy-finance pact.

Both nations prioritized modernizing Venezuela’s oil infrastructure with Chinese technology, including refining projects and heavy crude exploration. Rodríguez highlighted China’s support in overcoming “unilateral aggressions” against Venezuela’s energy industry, referencing international sanctions.

Han Zheng emphasized “socialism with Chinese characteristics” as inspiration for Venezuela’s development, while Rodríguez praised Xi Jinping’s leadership in building a “new multipolar order.” Discussions included strategies to strengthen economic blocs as alternatives to Western systems.

The revised agreements include technology transfers in public health, specialized hospital construction, and scholarships for Venezuelan students at Chinese universities. Rodríguez stressed that this cooperation “prioritizes the people over corporate interests.” Both sides condemned “unilateral coercive measures” against Venezuela, with Han reaffirming China’s support for Venezuelan self-determination. Rodríguez thanked Beijing’s consistent diplomatic backing in multilateral forums.

Plans include creating a binational fund to finance agricultural tech and 5G telecommunications projects. Maduro and Xi are scheduled for a virtual summit in June to sign new AI and minin agreements. Rodríguez concluded by asserting that this alliance “demonstrates the Global South can build sovereign development models,” while China reaffirmed its commitment to making Venezuela its top energy partner in Latin America.

Julian Assange and His Family Attend Pope Francis’ Funeral - Telegram

Article

‘We’ve all come to Rome to express our family’s gratitude for the Pope’s support during Julian’s persecution,” Stella Assange said. On Saturday, Australian journalist Julian Assange went to St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican to pay tribute to Pope Francis.

On social media, his wife Stella posted a photo of the WikiLeaks founder and their two children on Via della Conciliazione, with the Basilica in the background.

“Now Julian is free, we have all come to Rome to express our family’s gratitude for the Pope’s support during Julian’s persecution,” she said.

“Our children and I had the honor of meeting Pope Francis in June 2023 to discuss how to free Julian from Belmarsh prison. Francis wrote to Julian in prison and even proposed to grant him asylum at the Vatican,” Stella added.

Could you imagine Julian living with Pope Francis in the Vatican lol

What happened to the "Trump is going to declare martial law on 4/20" stuff? I know that was a deadline for some report based on an early executive order:

Sec. 6. Reporting Requirement. (a) Within 30 days of the date of this proclamation, the Secretary of Defense shall submit to the President, through the Homeland Security Advisor, a report outlining all actions taken to fulfill the requirements and objectives of this proclamation; and

(b) Within 90 days of the date of this proclamation, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Homeland Security shall submit a joint report to the President about the conditions at the southern border of the United States and any recommendations regarding additional actions that may be necessary to obtain complete operational control of the southern border, including whether to invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807.

[–] Kolibri@hexbear.net 46 points 2 months ago (3 children)

https://www.newsweek.com/hegseth-noem-decide-insurrection-act-guidance-trump-report-2061659

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are not planning to recommend that President Donald Trump invoke the Insurrection Act to address conditions at the southern border, multiple U.S. officials told CNN.

While the deadline is Sunday, officials told CNN the memo will likely be sent to the White House next week. The expected recommendation points out that migrant crossings have significantly decreased — under 300 per day, compared to well over 1,000 in previous years — and that current authorities are sufficient for managing the situation.

Despite internal White House frustrations over the slow pace of nationwide interior arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), CNN says that officials are warning that invoking the Insurrection Act could overwhelm detention capacity.

When reached for comment via email, a Pentagon spokesperson told Newsweek, "At the President's direction, the DoD and DHS are developing a joint report assessing the conditions at the U.S. southern border and recommending actions to achieve full operational control of the border. We have nothing additional to provide at this time."

really surprising the two ghouls aren't recommending it.

New Report: Denmark Faces Billions in Flooding Damages If Climate Inaction Continues

Denmark is hurtling toward climate disaster, warns a new report from the Danish Technical University (DTU) and the national association of municipalities. Without urgent intervention, over 175,000 Danes will live in flood-prone homes within a century, and storm surge damages could exceed DKK 282 billion (RMB 313 billion)—one of the costliest preventable disasters in the country’s history.

Experts say delaying action makes no economic sense. Researchers found that preventative measures like dikes, flood walls, and sluices are cost-effective in every scenario. "It's actually really simple math, that if the damage of flooding is greater than the costs of avoiding it then it is really stupid not to avoid it" said climate economy professor Kirsten Halsnæs.

Yet while risks to cities like Copenhagen and Aalborg mount, municipalities lack the resources to act. Many vulnerable areas are already struggling due to austerity-driven economic mismanagement, leaving local governments unable to launch the large-scale projects needed to shield communities.

The central government, meanwhile, refuses to step up. Proposals for a climate adaptation fund have been ignored, and debates over who should pay—homeowners, municipalities, the state, or private actors—remain unresolved. This policy vacuum leaves critical infrastructure, cultural heritage and citizens exposed.

Recently a group of prominent Danish climate scientists warned that sea level rise is accelerating faster than previously projected, due to polar ice melt and thermal expansion. The threat is growing—but political urgency is not.

Instead, Denmark’s leadership has prioritized an aggressive and costly military buildup, funneling billions into defense to confront imagined Russian and Chinese bogeymen while starving climate adaptation efforts of funding.

This reflects the regime's ideological fixation on austerity and militarization at the expense of their own population's needs. As the regime clings to outdated economic dogmas, vulnerable communities are left to face the coming storm alone.

Jordan Moves to Ban Muslim Brotherhood as ‘Illegal’ Group - Asharq Al-Awsat English

Article

As the fallout continues from Jordan’s recent security crackdown on a militant cell accused of manufacturing missiles and drones, officials remain tight-lipped about why a court-banned branch of the Muslim Brotherhood continues to operate freely.

The group, declared illegal by a final court ruling in 2020, has maintained its political activities with apparent impunity—a contradiction analysts say points to selective enforcement of the law.

While Jordanian authorities have detained extremists over what was described as a “chaos plot,” they have avoided confronting the unlicensed movement. The Brotherhood’s continued presence, despite Article 159 of the penal code criminalizing illegal associations with potential jail sentences, has puzzled observers.

Analysts say the government’s “soft containment” approach reflects a broader political culture in Amman that avoids clashes with groups enjoying popular support, even if that means ignoring binding court decisions.

Critics argue the state’s flexibility towards the Brotherhood undermines legal consistency and raises questions about the rule of law, especially as other groups face swift and public consequences.

Jordan’s government appears to have taken a markedly tougher stance following the recent exposure of the militant cell allegedly backed by foreign actors and accused of planning attacks with home-built missiles and drones targeting domestic sites—not under the pretext of “supporting the resistance in Gaza”.

The discovery of the plot has prompted a reassessment within the country’s decision-making circles, which are now closely watching for verdicts from the State Security Court—the judicial body with jurisdiction over terrorism and national security cases.

While authorities have clamped down on the immediate threat, they have stopped short of confronting the unlicensed Muslim Brotherhood group and its political wing, the Islamic Action Front.

Analysts say officials are treading cautiously, wary of provoking parliamentary unrest or street mobilizations that the faction could spearhead if directly challenged.

The government’s current posture suggests a strategic pause—one that balances national security concerns with the potential political fallout of taking on a well-rooted opposition force.

Jordanian decision-makers, however, are stepping up preparations on multiple fronts as the country braces for a possible legal showdown with the Brotherhood.

Authorities are weighing the implications of formally designating the Brotherhood as an unlicensed entity, a move that would entail shutting down its activities, seizing its assets and properties, and treating any political statements or public events linked to its members as violations subject to prosecution under the penal code and counterterrorism laws.

Behind the scenes, government institutions are working to draw a legal and operational distinction between the Brotherhood and the Islamic Action Front, which remains registered under the country’s political parties law.

This delicate balancing act hinges on upcoming hearings at the State Security Court, expected to begin next week. However, officials fear that any legal escalation could spark backlash, including street protests or social media campaigns led by the Islamic Action Front.

Analysts say such a scenario could force authorities to take more decisive measures, including dissolving the party itself, in a bid to dismantle what critics view as a monopolized Islamist platform and reassert control over religious political representation in the kingdom.
