I (naively) thought that the affect of the tariffs would sour some folks on Donald. But now I'm seeing this new narrative that Trump is tanking the economy on purpose to lower interest rates in order to more easily pay off the national debt. People telling me I know nothing about economics if I don't think a recession is a good thing. He literally can do NO wrong in their eyes and it's disturbing

That's been my experience at work as well. He could literally have their loved ones killed and they would shrug and either claim it didn't happen or it was "fake news".

MAGA voters want the rest of us dead. This isn't a glib observation. They genuinely are worse than 1940s nazis. They know nazi and genocide history and want to invoke all of it and will lie through their rotted teeth to get us there. The nazis in the 40s get to claim they didn't see the genocide coming because it wasn't genuinely taught to them. The MAGA nazis today want it and will say anything to get us there. Last year they were all like, "oh Trump won't do project 2025. it's all conjecture. vote for him." They damn well knew it was happening. MAGA are worse than nazis.

They don't just know nazi and genocide history, a sizeable portion of them had relatives who lived it, and express pride for being related to those same relatives while championing the beliefs those relatives fought against. Its sick.

Its always been this dumb. The constant spin and incessant propaganda spewing from the rightwing mediasphere is so thoroughly slurped up and any contrary point is dismissed as fake news. Its fucked because they fully believe it. They are all in. If a fox news host told them that sucking tapeworms out of each others asses would cure their little peepee syndrome they'd do it with a smile.

Understanding economics and intelligence are highly linked, so it should be no surprise that the MAGA crowd don’t understand that a recession tanks a countries credit rating.

A lower credit rating makes loans more expensive so literally the opposite of their current narrative.

Yeah a relevant amount of the us wealth had been that we were basically the lannister of countries. Our credit was so good it was seen as essentially riskless to loan us money and so we were able to borrow at ridiculously low interest and more or less as much as we wanted.

I was raised being told that US bonds were low yield investment where the only reason it wasn't guaranteed was because the bond holder may back out and cash out early. More stable than a savings account. But morality aside, I trust my credit union to responsibly hold and return my money far more than the US government and in fact I see the US government as the weak link in all major investment strategies at the moment.

Many Americans fail to understand how much of our lives benefitted from a stable and reliable government that pays its debts, supports its allies, and provides global aid. But we're gonna learn alright
