I have boycotted Coors based on the piss poor taste of their beer since 2002

[–] golden_zealot@lemmy.ml 8 points 6 days ago

Since all this shit started to go down I have only been buying local craft stuff here in Canada. More specifically I try to buy only stuff produced in my city or province. It's been a good time, found some stuff I reallllly like.

At this point it might be easier to list all the companies that don't support conservatives.

[–] joelfromaus@aussie.zone 16 points 1 week ago

Ok. Here is that list:

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 37 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There are more obvious reasons to not drink Coors ever.

[–] sloppychops@lemmy.ca 27 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But what if i like the taste of carbonated dishwater?

[–] VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Just carbonate your own dishwasher.

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't SodaStream another company we're trying to avoid though? Or are we bottle carbonating our own artisanal dishwater?

[–] VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's why I got a used soda stream and third party co2 cannisters, it's not perfect but they get the minimum amount of money from me.

Then I can drink all the carbonated dishwater I want!

[–] Lighttrails@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Are there actual third party canisters or did you fit an external co2 tank to your soda stream? I’ve been wanting to modify mine to save money on tank exchanges.

[–] VaalaVasaVarde@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 days ago

At the gas station they sell fully compatible soda stream CO2 canisters.

I have been looking at getting a 10l CO2 tank but the local prices makes it not really worth the effort, at best it would be the same price.

There's also an adapter that let's you fill the 60l sodastream bottles direct from a CO^2^ cylinder. I went with this, as I wanted the unit in the kitchen, but didn't want the cylinder there.

Every time there's a boycott, its something I'm already boycotting because they either already behaved shitty in the past, or their product is shit. I keep getting told to boycott United for busting guitars or assaulting passengers, etc., but I boycotted them decades ago because they're expensive with the shittiest service in the biz.

I've been boycotting Coors beer since i was 21, because it's undrinkable.

[–] asg101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 1 week ago

Coors has been right wing and anti-union forever, I started boycotting them in the '70s.

"Is"? He died more than 20 years ago.

Let's check once, just to be sure.

Coors is great for a party beer. A beer you buy to play drinking games and you're cool with sharing. Beyond that? It's shit.

Coors is the same has all American light beer. Made to be massively consumed. Piss water.

[–] YesButActuallyMaybe@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago

I’d rather drink piss thank you very much

[–] RowRowRowYourBot@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The Coors family hasn’t owned Coor’s brewing in decades. MolsonCoors owns the brand and are a Canadian company with HQ in Chicago.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago

Stop! You're complicating somebody's oversimplified plan to pretend they're actually taking action on something. Now they'll have to look up from scrolling and figure out some other empty gesture.

Honestly... At this point making your own at home is the best way to go about having beers. :/

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There are tons of small breweries that are run by great people too!

[–] Pulptastic@midwest.social 3 points 1 week ago

Local beer nerds are often left wing. Find those ones and drink that.

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Been doing that for years, if you have a homebrew shop in your area, you can get started with a fairly minimal amount of cost.

[–] 7U5K3N@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

I've been tossing around the idea of making my own. I love harp and bass beers. Harp is able to be found again... But bass is out of production.

So the only way I'm going to get it is make my own :/

[–] Kaliax@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Could you recommend a beginner setup? I would like to make a beer as close to Coors Light at home - kinda weird, but that's interesting for me atm. Cheers!

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

you can get away with as little as a kettle for boiling wort, a fermentor setup (bucket, lid, airlock), and some stuff for bottling (siphon/hose, bottling wand, bottles, caps, and a capping tool if using glass bottles). That will allow you to start brewing extract-based beers. The next logical step is BIAB, which is the same setup except you add in a bag to hold grains and your process adds the mashing step.

I'd recommend getting at least a couple extract brews under your belt, then upgrading your setup. Prices and where to buy depends on where you are, but there's plenty of shops throughout North America (and EU/Aus/etc) that sell equipment kits

[–] Kaliax@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Thank you for the direction! I'm looking forward to giving it a go - this Spring might be a good time for it.

Check out Goods Unite Us App.

Let's you filter which companies do what, and even see who they funded.

Once in a while, I found missing information. Fortunately, they have comments so you can give your own take or fill in additional info.

[–] FoolishAchilles@lemm.ee 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I use this app as well. It’s interesting to see which companies outright choose one party to donate to and others who play both sides. Been using the app to transition away from fascist supporting brands and products.

[–] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

That sucks, they make pretty good beer. Any worthwhile alternatives to it?

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

if someone tells me some right wing bullshit coming from yuengling, then i quit life

edit: jfc. sam adams too. oh well, better to buy local craft anyway

[–] CrimsonMishaps@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

They were big supporters of Trump on the first two go arounds. They are from PA and not from the couple blue cities that makes PA purple, so you can draw your own conclusions there.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh, really? I don't live in the US but find it to be one of the more awful US beers, just above Miller. The "normal" Budweiser isn't bad, but Bud Lite is awful. I like a lot of the less commercial Super Bowl beers though, like stuff from Sierra Nevada. Beer is very much a thing where more quantity often means less quality, but countries tend to have at least one or two mass-produced beers that still go down great.

[–] TheGrandNagus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

To be fair, it's possible they mean there are some good beers in the Molson Coors Group, rather than liking the beer sold as Coors.

[–] AbsoluteChicagoDog@lemm.ee 4 points 1 week ago

If you're drinking Coors to begin with your life is already so shit that you get a pass
