Is vegantheoryclub auth? No one answered this question

Edit: To anyone who may consider wasting their time telling me animal agriculture doesn't necessarily involve rape, slavery, and murder, or that dogs can't eat a plant based diet, please don't bother

[–] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 9 hours ago

No, vegan theory club (VTC) is not auth afaict and veganism is inherently leftist if anything. It seems OP cyberstalks the admin of VTC who recently stepped down (in part because of the cyberstalking). That former admin, hamid, identifies as an anarchist as far as i can see. So i really don't know why sunshine makes these posts other than just stirring up drama.

Vegantheoryclub is tankie? How unfortunate.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 2 points 18 hours ago

There’s a reason why it felt like walking on glass when I was part of it.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, I can't keep up with these instance-based politics either. I know it doesn't make sense but I wish instances overall would be more just 'federated but more of the same' and communities within the political furry factions or whatever.

[–] TheEntity@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Wait, what? What's that first one? Is there some context I'm missing?

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 2 days ago (2 children)

As a dramatic oversimplification: how dare you tell us that forcing domestic pets into a vegan diet is animal cruelty! We're going to make our own instance, with blackjack and hookers!

There was some stuff about vegan users being harassed after the "vegan pets" debacle too, but they're effectively "We need our own space where we can be as dramatically vegan as we want to be with no opposition".

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (3 children)

are they as bad as the vegan subreddit was? It straight up put me off becoming a vegan because they are just such fucking assholes. I was trying to see if they had any good studies for health benifits because I don't find ethical veganism convincing personally. And they came up with what amounted to a slur to discuss non vegans (no it is not an actual slur but they sure used it like one) and it was fucking hilarious because carnist sounds way more badass than omnivore.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago

A carnist sounds like a incredibly hedonistic individual. Like hedonism bot just absolutely amped up.

[–] muntedcrocodile@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

I've gotta incorporate carnist into a metal as fuck username.

Misogynist men said the said thing about feminism in the 1950s.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Misogynist men said the said thing about feminism in the 1950s.

They literally already said they weren't looking to convert to veganism for moral reasons, so I don't know what point you think you're making.

There was a willing ally in the reduction of meat consumption and the mainstreaming of vegan options, but the vegan community they encountered decided that insufficient orthodoxy was reason enough to encourage their 'carnist' enemy to go back to murdering animals for food.

If someone in 1918 says, "I don't think women are equal, but I do think they deserve the vote", the correct response is not to attack them; it's to make common cause with them until women get the vote - and fuck, that they're already ahead of the curve may mean that they can be swayed by the positions of their new allies.

But many online vegans (and I specify online, since the only vegans I've met irl have been pretty nice folks, even to a 'carnist' like me) treat it as a religion, a fashion; an identity.

Meat is murder - but murder, apparently, is preferable to wrongthink.

I don't see animals as people. This is the type of shit I saw, that and comparing animal ranching to slavery and artificial insemination to rape.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Comparing animal ranching to slavery and artificial insemination to rape.

You're literally going against the definition of words.

The animals do not have a choice, they do not want to be exploited and slaughtered. That is slavery period.

Forcibly impregnating someone "is not rape" what a joke. You're heartless.

You're using tankie logic.

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Rape

1: unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception.

Slavery 1. a: the practice or institution of holding people as chattel involuntarily and under threat of violence

b : the state of a person who is forced usually under threat of violence to labor for the profit of another

c: a situation or practice in which people are coerced to work under conditions that are exploitative

Again. I do not see animals as people.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It’s literally the same action but with different subjects. You’re an awful person.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I can't wait until the mass rape of flowers begins in the spring.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Plants do not have central nervous system. Stepping on grass is not the same as stepping on kittens. Giving birth is a painful process each time.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Plants do not have central nervous system. Stepping on grass is not the same as stepping on kittens.

I agree. But then we run into the issue that it is "literally the same action but with different subjects."

Your previous comment implied subject does not matter; now you are saying it very much does.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Animals are individuals not property. So stop justifying animal abuse. God you’re one of the spineless types who just plays along with the atrocities of the modern day.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Here I thought we were having a debate. Silly me, thinking that you meant the arguments you put forward, instead of throwing shit at the wall to see if it sticks.

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think this is the fundamental disconnect between vegans and non vegans. I think most non vegans have a human centric moral system and vegans have a much more all encompassing moral system.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca -1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That’s the first correct thing you said in this thread. Just because someone is not human does not mean it’s okay to harm them.

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Is keeping bees harming them? This isn't a straw man I have seen people seriously argue that it is. What about keeping chickens just for eggs. They are safer than they would be in the wild and you don't have to do any form of artificial insemination. What about keeping goats for milk?

Edit: Holy shit I got the CJ treatment if feel like a star. This is fucking hilarious.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I murdered an animal the other week. Not even for food. Its corpse is off rotting somewhere now.

Separately, I have some animal-murder spray below the sink for when the warm weather comes. Usually don't need it, but in an apartment, you never can tell.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"How dare you respond to my common-sense based objections with actual information!"

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I doubt that….: stirring The very argument that caused an exodus, against the people who didn't leave with the same arguments that was had last time, and ignoring the same rebuttals as last time; …will result in a different outcome.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are they back on their putin shit? I haven't seen a tankie outright shill for Russia in a while and I thought they were actually backing off that point.

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 4 points 1 day ago

They are getting big into the "US bad therefore China good" recently.

China is not some extra evil empire it is however an empire in every way that matters.

[–] codexarcanum@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I haven't even seen a hexbear post (on 'All') since their DNS debacle. Maybe @db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com defederated them or their new url isn't getting picked up?

I can't say I've seen a particular uptick in pro-putin content but I'll be paranoid about it now!

[–] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think their DNS situation is causing federation issues. We didn't do anything on our end.

[–] CarbonBasedNPU@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago

Def their DNS issues. I can't see them on lemm.ee and its blocked like 4 instances.
