When automakers control more of those services, they are able to extract more revenue from customers who wish to continue using those services via a subscription model.

There you go…. Forget interface, experience, whatever. This is the reason.

I feel like I should be opposed to the tech giants being involved but it's not helped by the fact that auto makers consistently suck dogshit at designing a usable interface

The point about auto makers just wanting it to extract more value from customers is also fair. Though I guess enshitification feels likely no matter who controls the in-vehicle display

That’s fine, I just won’t buy cars that don’t support CarPlay . Fuck ‘em.

I mean at this point I refuse to buy an American car anyway.
