I wouldn't even say "big parts of the platform". Beehaw, Lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works have large enough userbases now to counterbalance Lemmy.ml
Censoring unfavourable speech is really common on all the big instances, always check that modlog to see what sort of content the mods are censoring. That's why I like burggit.
