Also a bad design ... I think there's a reason why in the thousands of years of people using axes, why we never designed an axe handle to wrap around the outside of an axe head.

Designs evolve. We didn't have the means of production before or the right materials. It may not replace the original design overall, but personally I've been using such an axe for almost 10 years now and it's proven to be very sturdy (and lightweight)
