Totally standard cat behaviour.
Although I know of a couple specimens that when they have an had enough pets they just walk away.
You are done, servant. Know your place.
Just a communication tool, if something else would work, they tend to use that (but overstimulation happens rather quickly and humans aren't the best at interpreting cat behavior that precisely).
But totally standard kitty, gotta love them
