back in my map era, we're ukrainemaxxing right now

Declarations of the imminent doom of Ukraine are a news megathread specialty, and this is not what I am doing here - mostly because I'm convinced that whenever we do so, the war extends another three months to spite us. Ukraine has been in an essentially apocalyptic crisis for over a year now after the failure of the 2023 counteroffensive, unable to make any substantial progress and resigned to merely being a persistent nuisance (and arms market!) as NATO fights to the last Ukrainian. In this context, predicting a terminal point is difficult, as things seem to always be going so badly that it's hard to understand how and why they fight on. In every way, Ukraine is a truly shattered country, barely held together by the sheer combined force of Western hegemony. And that hegemony is weakening.

I therefore won't be giving any predictions of a timeframe for a Ukrainian defeat, but the coming presidency of Trump is a big question mark for the conflict. Trump has talked about how he wishes for the war to end and for a deal to be made with Putin, but Trump also tends to change his mind on an issue at least three or four times before actually making a decision, simply adopting the position of who talked to him last. And, of course, his ability to end the war might be curtailed by a military-industrial complex (and various intelligence agencies) that want to keep the money flowing.

The alignment of the US election with the accelerating rate of Russian gains is pretty interesting, with talk of both escalation and de-escalation coinciding - the former from Biden, and the latter from Trump. Russia very recently performed perhaps the single largest aerial attack of Ukraine of the entire war, striking targets across the whole country with missiles and drones from various platforms. In response, the US is talking about allowing Ukraine to hit long-range targets in Russia (but the strategic value of this, at this point, seems pretty minimal).

Additionally, Russia has made genuine progress in terms of land acquisition. We aren't talking about endless and meaningless battles over empty fields anymore. Some of the big Ukrainian strongholds that we've been spending the last couple years speculating over - Chasiv Yar, Kupiansk, Orikhiv - are now being approached and entered by Russian forces. The map is actually changing now, though it's hard to tell as Ukraine is so goddamn big.

Attrition has finally paid off for Russia. An entire generation of Ukrainians has been fed into the meat grinder. Recovery will take, at minimum, decades - more realistically, the country might be permanently ruined, until that global communist revolution comes around at least. And they could have just made a fucking deal a month into the war.

The Israel-1 "AI supercomputer" debuts on the list of fastest supercomputers, ranked #34 out of 500. The list was published today.

The system has Intel CPUs and Nvidia GPUs.

Here's an article from last year on it: regular linkarchive link

The Israel-1 is listed as a U.S. system despite being in Israel. Israel doesn't have any systems on the Top 500 super-computer list. The other system Nvidia announced around the same time, called Tapei-1, shows Taiwan as the country. Both systems are said to be housed in Nvidia data centers.

More funny shit from the failed assassination attempt against Lula da Silva, Geraldo Alckmin (VP, probably known for posting Wojak and other memes on his twitter account) and Supreme Court Judges Alexandre de Moraes (The one that fucked with Elon Musk) and Flavio Dino (Brazilian Communist Party Member and Former Governor). They were using their whatsapp group (yes, they were using this shit to plot a coup), they named their group "Copa 2022", to pretend it was a World Cup group but also because Copa sounds like Coup. Coup 2022. Holy fucking shit these people are fucking stupid, they fucking had a document with the whole coup only changing some of the names of people they wanted to kill/arrest, they left the files on the printer, and the printer was literally inside Lula's Office (which was Bolsonaro's office before). No fucking wonder they couldn't do shit, and the US/CIA was against this.

Four to seven Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers have conducted launch manouvers for long range cruise missiles, according to Russian aligned sources on telegram. No Tu-160s this time, unlike the last attack on November 17th. That's anywhere from 16-56 cruise missiles depending on how many bombers launched, and how many missiles each were carrying.

In the spirit of discussing the Chinese dollar bonds, i’d like to talk about “China’s Foreign Exchange Reserves: Past and Present Security Challenges” by Yu Yongding, published first in July 2022 (so 5 months after Russian forex got seized) and translated here. It concludes, amongst some other things, that “[China] should strive to avoid becoming a creditor as much as possible”.

The internationalization of the RMB is a good for security in the long term, but in the short term “even if China’s foreign exchange reserves consisted entirely of RMB assets, their security would not change.” Why? “Because the key to the problem does not lie in the currency that China’s foreign exchange reserves are denominated and settled in, but in whether China owes the United States money or vice versa.” If the US does not want to service the debt, then China is left in the lurch/ bag-holding even if the $1 trillion US dollars in China’s reserve magically turned into RMB. The security threat outlined in this article is China being stiffed to the tune of trillions, and the security solution outlined is to stop being owed anything. The author repeatedly notes how China’s current foreign exchange reserves generate negative investment returns, largely because they are over-leveraged. Most countries have much smaller reserves of dollars on hand. So Mr. Yu advocates for getting dollars out of the country in a way that generates positive investment income.

But why does China have so many US dollars? Shortly after China’s opening up, “the shortage of foreign exchange was the main bottleneck”. As such, the RMB was devalued sharply. In 2003, financial turmoil caused China to delay the appreciation of the RMB until 2005. As a result of the late appreciation, “China’s trade surplus increased sharply, and, on the other hand, the domestic asset bubble and the strong expectation of RMB appreciation led to a large inflow of ‘hot money’. China’s capital account surplus once exceeded the trade surplus and became the primary source of new foreign exchange reserves. It is fair to say that China’s failure to let the RMB appreciate in time and its lack of exchange rate flexibility were the conditions that led to the country’s excessive accumulation of foreign exchange reserves.”

Why can’t the RMB just replace the dollar? “In short, for the RMB to become an international reserve currency, China must fulfill a series of preconditions, including establishing a sound capital market (especially a deep and highly liquid treasury bond market), a flexible exchange rate regime, free cross-border capital flows, and long-term credit in the market. In short, China must overcome the so-called ‘original sin’ in international finance and be able to issue treasury bonds internationally in RMB. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the RMB to become an international reserve currency and RMB internationalization will remain incomplete.”

China will not do many of those things, because that would be giving up control of the economy to financial markets. But that’s the rub, isn’t it? China can’t establish itself as the world’s reserve currency, not least because its financial institutions are not ‘advanced’ enough. The USA is a decrepit shell that has spent 40 years hollowing itself out to be the best financial market possible. The current proposal seems to be using both of these facts to China’ advantage.

De-dollarization is a non-starter unless the US goes apeshit crazy with SWIFT sanctioning. SDRs are cool, but the World Bank and IMF are USAmerican puppets for shock therapy. A bancor would require a lot of diplomatic work that no one will want to do for a while. Too many debts already exist denominated in dollars. The proposal with re-dollarization is to take advantage of the facts that China has too many dollars and some nice manufactured goods and that most of the Global South has commodities or other inputs for manufacturing and too much dollar debt. The US wants to be the turbo-finance hub of the world. Now, many of us here would argue that’s a broader manifestation of USamerica standing in the role as the current hegemon in a capitalist world and the tendency of the rate of profit to fall. At the ground level though, the finance people are blind dogs chasing blood, and they could not care less from where it flows. If the debts are getting paid, there shouldn’t be anything to complain about. And i personally doubt that the ‘Art of the Deal’ President is going to be some savvy financial genius. i think some guy once said something about capitalists selling the rope to hang themselves. As it is currently argued, China is setting up a win-win-win that slowly de-leverages their oversized dollar reserves and other countries’ debt.

Saudi Arabia may be mostly aligned with the West and the dollar, but that is a role they were forced into, not one they chose. The whole idea of the petrodollar comes from when OPEC tried to grab the “West” by the balls in the 70s and 80s, and then ended up with too much money to do anything with. Cash alone doesn’t do much in the desert. The US won that fight, because the Gulf States ended up recycling all of that money into US debt. Oil price spikes, a global recession, and soaring interest rates were the ingredients in the very first neoliberal shock. Interest rate and currency exchange rate manipulation led to IMF loans conditional on reforms, and the accompanying mass privatization and austerity. The US in 2024 has nowhere near the industrial or political capacity to pull off a second global financialization, mostly because there’s nowhere left in the world that hasn’t already been financialized. Even Russia and China represent financial markets outside the US’ control, not fully untapped markets. After 2008, quantitative easing, and the acceleration of money printing since 2020, domestic investors, banks, and the stock market depend on the federal interest rates in a way they really never have before. The snake is eating its own tail.

If anything, China’s attempts to do literally anything other than buying more US debt represents learning from the 80s. i do not see this as an obvious China L, though it may turn out to be.

Remember that Ukraine retains a vested interest in fomenting a wider war, no matter what decisions their sponsors may or may not have made in the matter. Every cope drone raid or jury-rigged Ukrainian ballistic is going to be claimed as Western missiles from now on.

As expected, the huge ATACMS raid from earlier turned into a bunch of cope drones and two unidentified but apparently not very threatening missiles once the smoke cleared. These rumors WILL keep circulating going forward, however.

Looks like certain someones are asking for bullets to the head

‘Forces of heaven’: Milei loyalists launch ‘armed' libertarian grouping

La Libertad Avanza supporters, headed by online troll ‘Gordo Dan,’ government deputies and national officials, stage rally in San Miguel to launch new “armed” wing and "praetorian guard" known as "the forces of heaven."

National officials and leading voices from social media platforms identified with La Libertad Avanza (LLA) have launched a new political grouping to “defend the ideals” of President Javier Milei.

"Las fuerzas del cielo” or “The forces of heaven" has the main objective of defending the Javier Milei Presidency and its ideas, according to its organisers. But the style, tone and rhetoric of the event has sparked concern among opposition lawmaker.

Online influencer turned streamer Daniel Parisini, known widely as ‘Gordo Dan,’ was one of event’s key organisers and speakers. Raising eyebrows from government critics, he described the new grouping as the “armed branch” of the LLA libertarians in his speech.

“This is the Praetorian Guard of President Javier Milei. We are his most loyal soldiers who were there from the start and will be there at the end, defending the ideals of our leader Javier Milei and his vision of the country,” declared Parisini.

The launch in the Greater Buenos Aires locality of San Miguel was attended by libertarian writer Agustín Laje, Buenos Aires Province deputy Agustín Romo, Cults & Civilisation Secretary Nahuel Sotelo, national deputy Santiago Santurio (LLA-Buenos Aires Province), University Policy Undersecretary Alejandro Álvarez, among others. The idea behind Las Fuerzas del Cielo is to train leaders who can defend the project headed by Milei in public nationwide.

Sotelo, one of the orators last Saturday night, underlined the importance of winning "the cultural battle" in Argentina in order to consign to the past discussions like Agenda 2030, the environment and other issues which interest “the left." Romo declared: "Do you know why we have achieved what we have? Because victory in war does not depend on the number of soldiers but on the forces which come from heaven." Parallel to the rally, a website was launched to register interested parties and connect them with local “trainers” who can help them spread the libertarian word.

Criticisms

The launch of the event sparked criticism for its violent rhetoric and symbology associated with authoritarian movements like the Nazi regime or the fascism of Benito Mussolini.

Onstage, behind a lectern, were red banners hung with golden letters spelling out slogans and symbols. As well as a four-spoked cross (similar to the Iron Cross used by the Nazi regime) were the words "property," "liberty," "life," "God," "fatherland" and "family," as well as the slogan: "Argentina será el faro que ilumina el mundo (“Argentina will be the beacon lighting up the world”).”

There is a translation problem there. Faro does not strictly mean beacon, but it's actually lighthouse. Lighthouses are obviously avoided by ship captains, if anything, you want to stay far from them because they mean trouble lmfao.

Also mfers having main character syndrome. Nobody looks at Argentina and says "holy shit what a based nation" lol

Yet it was Parisini’s definition of the new grouping as “the armed branch of La Libertad Avanza” that has aroused the most alarm among opposition deputies. Among those criticising the rhetoric were leaders from the centrist Coalición Cívica-ARI, which questioned the self-proclaimed shock troops of the government. Party leader Maximiliano Ferraro warned about the danger of ambiguous attitudes towards democracy, quoting authors Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt and their description of "semi-loyal democrats" – people who, although saying that they support democracy, ignore or justify violent or anti-democratic actions.

Socialist deputy Esteban Paulón called on Security Minister Patricia Bullrich to investigate the statements of Las Fuerzas del Cielo, describing them as potential instigation to violence or urban terrorism. “Argentina is a country at peace and with a democratic society,” and requesting immediate action.

Unión por la Patria lower house caucus chief Germán Martínez recalled previous statements to A24 radio, describing the approach as fascist. “I said it then and reaffirm it today: this is fascism. Enough of underestimating the violence of Milei and his entourage. The courts must act urgently before it’s too late,” he said.

I hope they find out soon.

I'm not going to play pretend and say violence is bad and they should stop doing this. No, I want them to continue and suffer the consequences. There's no other way around this, you don't talk with fascists or wannabe fascists, you literally kill them.. but first they have to come out. If we have to draw one lesson from WW2 is that nazis and their friends should be killed, no remorse and no mercy for scum like that. Tito understood this very well barbara-pit.

Plans for a coup d'état that included assassinating Lula and Alckmin also included censoring the press, silencing journalists both in the states and at the federal level. A coup “crisis cabinet” would be set up to monitor the actions of media outlets.

The Federal Police decided today to indict 37 people for attempted coup d'état and criminal organization. Among those indicted are Bolsonaro, Braga Netto (General, Murderer, VP candidate of Bolsonaro in 2022) and Augusto Heleno (The guy who led the massacres in Haiti), Paulo Figueiro FIlho (Grandson of the last Dictator of Brazil, Right-Wing Grifter, lives in the US), Filipe Martins (Neonazi, White Supremacist, Bolsonaro's Aide). Officially 37 people have been indicted in the investigation into the attempted coup d'état. They are accused of:

  • Coup d'état: 4 to 12 years in prison;
  • Violent abolition of the democratic rule of law: 4 to 8 years in prison;
  • Being part of a criminal organization: 3 to 8 years in prison

More information has been released about the Brazilian Federal Police's Operation against the Brazilian Army and Bolsonaro, Operation Counter Coup. The Federal Police have finally found the deleted files and the files that prove that the coup attempt on January 8th was not something organic (let's face it, when is a far-right protest organic? These are always financed by the US or rich people). Bolsonaro was being pressured by agribusiness and some politicians to carry out a coup in 2021 (a year before the elections), he organized the coup and changed some things, he had the file in his house, he held meetings in his house.

After Bolsonaro lost the election, there were these camps and protests in front of military bases. It seems that the Federal Police have found evidence that Bolsonaro financed these protests and encampments with public funds. He also planned to kill Lula, the vice-president and Judge Alexandre de Moraes. They tried to do this with poison and even an RPG ambush. The CIA and the US Army pressured them not to do it, saying there would be consequences. Biden was told by some Democrats and advised by the CIA to break off relations and sanction Brazil in the event of a coup, which would also explain why Chile (Boric) and Argentina (Alberto) offered to send troops to help Lula.

In addition to financing these camps and protests. Bolsonaro also financed and organized the January 8 coup attempt, and there is now evidence that military personnel were present at the coup attempt disguised in masks and gloves. This calls into question the narrative that these protests were something that just happened. What's more, the Brazilian Gusanos are so stupid that even the US opposed this bullshit plan. Another thing I want to talk about is how evil these people really are. One of the reasons they said they were going to do this (they had a whole document) is because Lula was going to use public funds and the government budget to promote progressivism and social programs, and that was unacceptable because it's left-wing stuff and these people (poor and minorities) don't deserve it, and it's a waste of money and power. It seems they also hated Flavio Dino. They complain about Supreme Court Judge Flavio Dino (Former Governor, member of the Communist Party of Brazil until 2022), and continue to nickname him Pardo (which is a term for mixed ethnicity people in Brazil) because? Idk, maybe they are racists?

Bolsonaro's family's response to this was “Uh... That's technically not a crime because it didn't happen!!!” and ‘It's not a crime to plan terrorist attacks and wish people dead’. Which is probably one of the worst responses of all time, honestly I have no idea why they can't just stfu. Bolsonaro didn't say anything because Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes created a law that prohibits Bolsonaro from talking with some people, making livestreams and giving interviews (which is pretty funny, he literally forced Bolsonaro to stfu). These are the people who tried to arrest a lib youtuber because he called Bolsonaro a genocidal maniac.

Denmark's Red-Greens, considered by public opinion to be the far-most looney left there is, has weighed in on the arrest warrants for zionist war criminals. They are doing so by asking the regime to explain "future relations" with the illegal zionist entity.

Red-Green foreign policy spokesperson Trine Petrou Mach says:

The way Danish foreign policy has been conducted for the last 13 to 14 months has been based on the fact that there was no evidence of war crimes. This is not proof, but it is a sign that there is indeed a justified suspicion.

"No evidence" until now. "Not proof". A "justified suspicion". You've got to admire the courage, principles and clear moral compass of the western left.

I just realized that the reason china wants to keep using US dollars is because it inflates American currency so they can keep cranking out market competitive cheap imports. Trump wants to devalue the currency which they won't help him do.
