It’s my fathers, and I’m just now realizing I’m only here due to American imperialism lol

Yeah the Panama canal is hugely important for obvious reasons. Panama is probably the last place the US would ever voluntarily exit.

Most people on this site are here due to American imperialism, maybe less directly, but still.

Hell, the fact we're having this conversation in english is because of it too.

My family are where they are because of trans-atlantic chattel slavery. Most families where I’m from are.

I didn't mean it as a personal attack or anything, sorry if it came across that way. My point was that American Imperialism has been such a shaping force in the west for the last 100 years that its influence is almost inevitable. We're all here because of American Imperialism, for better or for worse (mostly for worse, the people benefitting from it are a minority)

Ah thanks for clarifying. I completely misread your intent.

[–] TraschcanOfIdeology@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

No problem, glad I could clarify what my original intent.

It’s in the name of the operation. We’re doing this just ‘cause we can. Also Noriega’s usefulness had expired.

this sheet reads likes the start of that simpsons bit 'works on contingency? no, money down!'

Basically the US helped Noriega get into power in the early 80’s, then operation just cause was the invasion to depose him in 89. Classic American foreign policy
