Whitelisted :)
I'll join soon!
Hope to see you there! :)
Have submitted my whitelist application! I would love to give this a go at some point.
Whitelisted :)
For those who are interested, we're using the Project Poseidon server software.
It's open source and still under active development: https://github.com/RhysB/Project-Poseidon
It's a fork of CraftBukkit, plugins from the era are still compatible - if there's any ya'll would want.
There are a few plugins I would like such as being able to check online players but I cant find any old pugins sadly.
the /list command can do that
I sent my whitelist!
Whitelisted (and opped)
Caught up on all whitelist applications sent last night. You all should be able to join now.
Just finished maintenance which added Essentials QoL commands and some plugins to make the server more robust (world auto-saves, daily backups, etc).
Just submitted my whitelist application, I'm always up for some old school MC multiplayer :).
Accepted!
I've submitted my whitelist application. So excited to play Minecraft again after a long break!
This seems fun, I need to check this server out ^^
Submitted my whitelist application :)
I got my friend to submit an application as well - we'll probably be basing together, very excited to play old school MC with him :D
I've sent my application, hope you guys still play!
I sent an application last night as notherealfluffy and I'm not whitelisted yet (albeit it hasn't been 24 hours). I'm a bit afraid that if it's being manually added to the list then whoever is doing that might attempt to fix what appears to be a typo but isn't.
The server is not listing for me when I put in the address.
Connecting won't work on the regular MC launcher, not sure what's wrong if it still doesn't work with MultiMC though..
There is a little bit of data I can look through, and we could also do testing later with the vanilla server to make sure it's not a problem caused by Poseidon's modifications.
Sorry you couldn't join! We'll get it figured out
I think me and Rick figured out what happened. Make sure you've selected b1.7.3 in Prism/MultiMC when creating your instance.. This requires toggling the "betas" filter.
After testing, I get the exact same error messages you did when attempting to connect from r1.7.3, which you most likely selected in MultiMC accidentally when creating your instance.
(The original connection issues you had with the official launcher were just because it does NOT play well with old versions of Minecraft.)
What error are you getting? Me and Rick were just playing earlier, make sure you're using 1.7.3 and put in the full address - "oldschoolmc.live:25566"
This is what I see when I direct connect
Do you live in an area where your ISP would block VPNs or Tor exit nodes?
I suppose I hadn't considered that. I'm not sure as it has never been an issue. Let me try using a VPN myself.
I'm asking because the IP this Minecraft server uses used to belong to a Tor exit (operated by me a while back). It retains permanent bans in a few countries after that.
Also, please try pinging oldschoolmc.live and visiting it in your browser (should display a landing page)
I'm able to reach the landing page. I have read the rules over there and I also copy pasted the address from that site just to make sure everything was correct.
I wouldn't be surprised if my ISP was pulling some strings though.
I live in Florida and I have Spectrum as my internet provider.
Shouldn't have any issues in Florida.. Restarted the server, try joining again. You're using the vanilla client, right?
Also confirm your Minecraft username pls, just in case you made any typos in the whitelist app
Try and connect using either MultiMC or Prism Launcher, it works a lot better for historical minecraft versions.
I tried flushing and renewing my DNS and that didn't seem to work. I will put my username in the whitelist app, but my username is the same here. Cosmonaut_Collin
The server is receiving your connection attempts but rejecting them for some reason.. Doesn't even get into login phase, no idea what's going on here yet...
The ip address yields similar results.
I'm loading up multimc now
I guess it just wasn't meant to be. I will try again another time. Otherwise, post some updates on the server so I can get a gander at things going on. It would also be nice as a community project.
Silly question but are you sure you are using minecraft version b1.7.3 and not r1.7.3? Also make sure windows did not block minecraft in your firewall.
ooh yeah, this is a good suggestion.
it'd be easy to select release 1.7.3 instead of beta accidentally in MultiMC, and that'd line up with some of the server responses i've seen so far.
Collin, note the "betas" filter has to be ticked when making your instance in MultiMC to see the right version (this is a screenshot from Prism, but their UI here is identical)
After further testing, this is almost definitely what happened. I get the exact same error messages and server responses as Collin was getting when attempting to load into the server with r1.7.3
Oh man I feel like a dunce. Thank you for all the help though. I am glad that I was able to be a lab rat so any other interested players can avoid similar issues. I'll be able to get on at some point today and establish my presence on the server!
As Rick suggested, try using Prism Launcher or MultiMC
Also, just to confirm, you are using exactly version beta 1.7.3 - right?
yes, I am using beta 1.7.3
Does connecting directly to 129.153.223.249:25566
yield any different results?
