That is a absolutely wild video. I've said before I love all the tiny cars over seas and wondered why we can't have them.

I remember being a kid and my uncle having a two seater little red truck. It was iconic of my uncle to us in the family.

Kinda a piss off because a lot of people want a small truck.

They need to expand the CAFE standards to light trucks and SUV's. It's retarded that they are an exception.

If they did then they'd have to be more conservative on the standards because you can't just erase service trucks from existence.

Grant exemptions or lighter standards if the vehicle is owned by a business. If you're an individual buying it for personal use then it has to follow all the regulations.

Why?

Why should an aristocracy of business owners get the privilege of owning a practical vehicle?

[–] Gigan@exploding-heads.com 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

They're not practical at all, that's why people didn't buy them 30 years ago.

People bought trucks 30 years ago.

[–] Gigan@exploding-heads.com 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yes, but way less of them and the trucks were smaller. The only people that bought trucks were people that needed them.

Trucks have gotten bigger, but the average bed size for a pickup has gone down! People don't buy trucks because they need to haul things anymore, they buy them to use as an everyday vehicle. And the only reason they do that is because auto manufactures have convinced them too.

The whole point of the video is that you can't buy a small truck anymore because the bigger trucks are the only ones that are practically allowed under current legislation.

I understand that the CAFE standards are the root of the problem. I'm saying they should be expanded so that giant trucks and SUV's are no longer a loophole to the regulation. If it's not physically possible to design smaller vehicles that meet the standards then that's obviously a problem that should be addressed.

In that case we can agree.

My friends own small trucks, but they need to maintain trucks built in the 80s because nobody makes small trucks anymore, it's really annoying.
