I'll try and get a video tonight.
It doesn't ever hit the print area. Sorry I wasn't clear about that. The X or Y stepper will just keep going, and it'll push against the limit of that axis.
I've tried prusaslicer 2.6 and 2.5.2.
The oozing only happens after the print messes up. That stepper just keeps turning with nothing else moving. When it's running, it does a relatively good job of extruding the correct amount of filament. I've only unboxed one spool, but I don't store it very well ๐คฃ So far I've only tried PLA on the default temperatures.
I can move the bed and print head through the full range of motion without problems using the settings menu. It does get a bit noisy on the z-axis, so maybe something is misaligned there. What's this tool you mentioned?
Honestly, I had given up, but I saw the newsletter for the next version and it inspired me to try again.
Thanks so much!
I have used one like this before. There are others out there as well but the concept should be the same. It would help ensure you are level across both of your lead screws.

Have you put the printer through the xyz axis calibration as part of your troubleshooting?

That looks very useful!
I've done all the calibrations several times.
Tonight's print seems to be going uncharacteristically well. Maybe all I need to do to fix my issue is set up a webcam every time I print...
Print failed with an error I haven't seen before, about max ambient temperature. Guess I'll pull the board out and give it a look, and try again some other time...
https://help.prusa3d.com/article/ambient-temperature-check-mk3-mk3s_161230 if that triggered something sounds quite wrong. Might be worth going back through support again
Ended up talking to support and they replaced my mainboard. Works great now!
